I started this thread out of pure inspiration when I watch a bunch of speed gamers on justin.tv streaming marathons speedrun sessions of console games to raise money for charity last night. The stream is http://www.justin.tv/speeddemosarchivesda
Just for everyone's information they raised more than $120,000 USD for the cancer charity that they adopted. 120K!!!!
I feel what they did was a excellent way to show the community that as gamers we can contribute to society as well.
At sc2sea.com since we do organise so many tournaments and showmatches, why don't we try organising a fun series of showmatches for charities as well?
I was thinking maybe just regular showmatches might not generate too much attention? So how about we impose some rules for our showmatch players to adhere to to make these showmatches more fun to watch?
For example:
Team 2v2, 3v3 monobattles: where each player can only choose 1 unit to make.
Example: Pure Mothership Collosi Sentries vs Mothership Queens Ultras
Unit restrictions, for example:
Zerg players cannot make any tier 1 and 2 attacking units: Zerglings, roaches, mutas, hydras are banned.
Terran players cannot make Marines, Marauders, Hellions, Thors.
Well you guys can get the general idea.
Like is there anyone our there who might be interested to see:
Moonglade using only spines, spores and queens to defend and transition into infestors, queens, ultras
VS
Iaguz who is using Ghosts, Ravens, vikings medivacs?
I know we can possibly see the funkiest, viable builds ever since tgun played sc2 lol
And all the donations we gather from the showmatches can go to a charity suggested by our admins, it can be a local or international charity. So it will be an event that is both fun for players and viewers. As well as doing good for the society and generate publicity for our SEA community.
Funny games for the fans.. This could incorporate well with a team event, like SEACL. get two teams head to head.. but, someone sponsors a player to perform a particular silly build, if they win, the donator gives X amount to that teams charity....
funny games for their fans + Charity = win
I wonder where the $120K came from? Donations of people watching?
OMG They're playing FF7 on stream now! Haha zomg such a great game!
Yea pig the donations came from viewers all over the internet, i donated $20 usd myself
They were aiming to collect $80k streaming over 100 speedruns over 5 days, but they exceeded it
This is a really good idea. Fate, get this started ! I'll definitely watch it.
Humm would need help from all the biggest teams in SEA to help invite their best players for these showmatches, it will probably be an invitational format, maybe even getting some of the sponsors of the professional SEA teams involved.
Like we would definitely like to have the biggest names from SEA involved
Also we would probably invite our biggest casters like Benji and Zepph to cast the event, as their stream is featured on teamliquid.net, they will be able to gather in the most number of viewers.
It will also work positively to gather a lot of publicity for the professional teams and their sponsors.

Yea we tried this once but Glade decided to be a dick and kill me before we got to the fun part. Dick.
Streaming for charity sounds great but we'd need to get an arseload of viewers behind it and that's just not something that tends to happen with SEA events.
If you want to help out a charity, just go to your nearest charity outlet. Bring money. Feel better. You don't have to make a big show of it. That's not what charity is really about.
Even the smallest donations help keep sc2sea running! All donations go towards helping our site run including our monthly server hosting fees and sc2sea sponsored community tournaments we host. Find out more here.
