Why should the pros get all the glory? They are indeed the ones who are putting SEA on the map for sure, but I feel there is another group worth writing about today. A group of players that consist of the lower and arguably more entertaining half of the ladder, the BSGers!
Timmy, let me tell you a story, of horror, pain and agony. Each week, on Saturday night, the best the BSG has to offer duke it out in an arena filled with lions, traps and a crowd that only wants to see blood… wait that’s the Roman Colosseum, I sometimes get the two confused, an easy mistake to make. Indeed our BSGers do duke it out each week, not in the Roman Collosseum, but instead live over this new fangled technowhatsit the Interwebs in the BSG Open, a far more intimidating and harrowing experience to be sure. And why would it not be? I’m sure everyone who has played in a tournament can understand the stress it can put you under, now add a far larger and unpredictable variety of builds that could be coming your way; from all ins, to macro style the BSG truly has it all.
Just imagine you’re a Terran, minding your own business macroing up, and then you realise “oh sh*t, I’m in the BSG open”; by then it’s too late, the Zerg you were playing, well, he went Stephano style Roaches against you, and he blind countered your Hellion Banshee opening; it’s a sad state of affairs little Timmy, but anything goes in the BSG. That strategy that should never work, well in the BSG it does, it does.
But fret not, it’s not all sad tales of people losing to early rushes and automatically being kicked out in the first or second round, there are those brave souls who make it past the first few gory rounds. These brave players who make it into the final rounds have had to defend all kinds of rushes, all-ins and other one base plays to make it this far… that or they cheesed every game and won; but that does not matter, what matters is indeed that they made it as far as they did, so what if they are cheap, skilless dirty cheesers? What matters is that they humiliated their opponents for our pleasure! Yes Timmy, this is the greatest part of the BSG, it’s not who wins or loses, it’s how entertaining the games are!
But one question remains, what kind of monster would force such young and impressionable players to battle to the death in such away? Who is the man behind the strings? The puppet master as it were? Unsurprisingly it is a group of heartless people who run such a gore fest; they are Supir (the stealer of souls), Asrathiel and Ozliam. Although monsters, these three are a crucial part of my weekly entertainment, and without them I maybe be forced to watch the boredom that is Grand Master level play. These three though, they pale in comparison to the narrator of demise, the chronicler of blood and victory, Venom. Truly a man without a conscience as it his Job to extenuate the pain the players feel by showing it to the world with harsh and brutal commentary.
The BSG Open is by far one of the most entertaining tournaments you can ever watch. What? You don’t believe me little Timmy? Then watch it yourself on a Saturday night and be amused at the absurdity that is the BSG level play. Watch as they battle it out for your amusement, for no other reason than being the best!
