I'm New to this site but not to the sc2 community as i see a lot of familiar faces here. My most well known thing around here is most likely being the Terran who thor rushed last year in a TvP for the Dunedin sc2 tourny if anyone remembers that still as quite a few people had a good laugh at that
Anyways, I'm looking to become an active member of this community by aiming to become a semi pro caster. I'll be trying to involve myself in anything that requires a caster here on the site so long as i have the time. So feel free to ask me to cast any games. If anyone has any awesome games they feel deserve a cast send them in and i may have them cast
You can find all my uploads on my youtube channel (MetalcoreSC2) where i already have some Bo9 series cast from another team league (info here) and i'll be streaming any live events on twitch at Metalcore1993.
Once again i am new to casting but i aim to improve as quickly as possible and welcome any feedback or constructive criticism in the forum of comments or interacting with me during live events. I hope to provide you guys with a good source of commentary in the coming weeks.
ewww I didn't know you were Kiwi, I take back all the nice things I said to you in the chatbox earlier!
Good luck mate.
:P You can't resist our allure. You can't help but love us

I would suggest you give those BSG admins a yell. Its a nice little competitive tourney and ive found it a joy to cast
Cheers for the heads up. New around to the forums and all so who are the admins of that tourny? Love casting BSG matches as i have some experience with that already and they often tend to be some really funny or awesome games to watch as you will see stuff in BSG you wont see anywhere else.

Here are the admins I can remember off the top of my head:
DGTV.WoLF
mGG.Slayer
AxS.Kumo
Any of those guys can lend a hand and get you going
Yeah these games are a blast to cast. Theres a lot of standard play that goes on but with some sneaky little twists that just seem to work
Definitely. Atm, i'm just familiarising myself with the layout of the site and learning who is who. Ill probably look at doing a bunch of casting this weekend so if you could send something in near the end of the week that would be great
Welcome to the community brother! If you'd like any tips at all during your casting adventures more than happy to lend some, hit me up anytime
I just finished doing a cast for a team league i'm in and i thought it was really good. Once i get the vod uploaded i would love any feedback on it as i feel with every cast i'm getting better and better. Todays cast was my first cast i feel i did with no mistakes so once i get the vod up (ill post it here) ill love to see how my A game stands
As somebody who used to do quite a bit of casting one of the biggest tips I can give you is be proactive (posting this thread is a great start!) and find something that makes you unique.
Of course learn from what the best do because that's the reason they are the best but don't become them. You need to be Metalcore not Artosis-v2. When I cast I found that production value (overlays, intro/outro videos etc.) was something which very few other people were doing so I decided that was what would be unique to me - always trying to push the boundaries of self production value while actively trying to improve my commentary. Although I cannot speak on behalf of the community, I think it's fair to say those who remember me when I used to cast remember me as somebody who always provided a professional stream.
To take a serious note from Ice's comment, take people's feedback to heart. If it's mean or not what you wanted to hear not shove it away, people aren't trying to be mean they just want to help you improve.
Welcome Metalcore.
Always good to see new people looking to contribute
There's plenty of opportunities around if you work hard at it/ask for chances.

Any chance you might fire up the mic again dude? Miss your casts!

I do miss casting. I just don't have the time to get back to a point I can confidently commentate the game and I don't really think doing a "guest cast" when you don't even know what's happening would be very enjoyable!
Here is the link to the vod i mentioned before VOD. I would love some feedback on it and out of the series games 4 and 9 were really good. links in the description to skip to those games. Working on focusing on articulation while casting atm, tricky to keep that in mind in some intense games but is my goal No one minds when they watching it live it seems but its a real pet peeve of mine when rewatching things to look on how to improve.
I'm still working on a few things (like my fan in the background for example is quite loud) but things are getting better very quickly . But yea, i agree with you baldie on production. Its one of my goals to make each cast i do slighty better than the previous one so if i can do that it will become a good stream in no time. Really need to get some nice polished 1v1 games casted to add to my repertoire as flux put it with simple but polished production to use to promote myself and share around.
anyways, cheers for all the advice so far. Really liking this community already
Hey dude! Got around to watching the first game from that VOD you linked.
Production
First of all, from a production perspective the first thing you want to make sure of is have your mic muted with some music playing or something in between games as the first 10 or so minutes of that VOD was suuuuuper loud typing and clicking. This is pretty standard for most streams, even the big tournaments do something similar.
Your mic quality is quite good, sounds like you got a decent desktop one but unfortunately those badboys are too good at picking up things on the desk as well, keep an eye on the settings on the mic and make sure you're talking into the front of it just in case but yeah the easiest way to avoid noise from keyboard and such is to mute between games. You shouldn't be typing while casting anyway, I know it's something I do sometimes but I shouldn't lol
Also balance the sound a little more, the sound and music was a touch too loud vs your voice in that VOD.
Observing
Don't use the arrow keys or edge scroll ever. It looks choppy and unnatural. It's much nicer to click on the minimap to show things, and use middle mouse button drag or whatever mouse button to drag the camera smoothly. Utilize the production tab when you want to talk about something that's being built, if you click on the icon it'll snap the camera to that position.
Casting
Honestly quite good, a lot better than most when they first start out and certainly better than I was! I understand this is a low level game so it's a little tough to talk about what they're doing so I'd like to see you cast a WCS KR / EU replay or something to see how you do with that.
Small things; keep an eye on the production tab and upgrades, in that game 1 the Protoss was on 2/2 with the Terran only on +1 attack for pretty much the whole game which is absolutely massive, the Terran made a Starport, 3 rax and factory on 2 bases with only 2 Gas as well which is another big deal he can't afford medivacs AND bio mine with that gas. Just stuff like that. It seemed to me that you were mainly casting by what you saw in the main display rather than minimap, resources and production tab, which is primarily where you should be looking as a caster / observer.
Try to make sure there's no "dead air" so keep talking about what the players are up to, you did a good job of this for the most part, only a couple occasions where you went silent for more than 5 or more seconds. That doesn't sound like a long time but 5+ seconds of dead air in a cast can feel like a lifetime for a viewer.
It seems like you know what you're talkin about which is good, but did seem like you felt a little uncomfortable at times and tripped over your words a bit. The only suggestion to fix that is cast more! That's the only way to fix it really. Look forward to the next one.
Cheers man. It actually helps a ton. Good to know my casting is good to start with and my production and obs mistakes are ones i can work on quite easily . These ones are rough uploads as well, Need to practice my editing skills as well. Need a broad set of skills it seems.
I'm well aware that practice makes perfect and i have already taken steps to fix that. Casting fri/sat/sun for tournaments here on the sea site so should be able to cast a few high level games then as well.
Over the weekend i casted a few small tournaments which was great but i think the best way for me to improve would be to cast some high level play. If any masters + players get a match that they thought was better than normal please send it in to me to cast. I have done one so far which had a few glitches but i got pretty good feedback from the player who sent it in and would love the opportunity to cast more high level games like it
