Is a 2 rax (1 tech 1 reactor) build plus 1 factory (producing thors) a good build?
The build goes into an expansion
I was hoping to use this build against zergs who go fast mutas or just mutas in general
Are you asking for a build order you can use for any Terran match up, or one specifically for TvZ?
If it's the latter, I generally go for a 1 Rax Factory for early Hellion harrass, then transition into Siege Expand Mech. However, I do still have trouble against Mutalisks, mainly because they're so mobile - Thors SUPPOSEDLY counter them, but you really kinda need to anticipate where to place your Thors for maximum effect IN ADVANCE, as Thors take too long to relocate into position. If you can outnumber Mutas with Vikings, and gain air superiority, then you have a head-start, but... it's risky at best.
Really though, I think the best way to deal with Mutas as Terran is to not let your opponent get them in the first place. Early Hellion harass translates to quite a few early GG's.
hmmmm i haven't try this out yet... but.. wad bout using medivac to reposition your thors? they are faster.. ehen u move out with your mech.. use medivac to pick up the slow thors~ =D just a tot... pros please advice?

That's actually quite a good idea, but I've already thought of a flaw with it. Mutas can easily take down defenceless Medevacs, and if Thors embarked on a Medevac work like any other embarked unit, you'd be losing about 400 minerals/300 gas in one fell swoop. The obvious answer is to disembark your Thors a short distance away from the Mutas, so the Mutas can't hit your Medevacs, but by the time they are dropped and ready to fire, the Mutas are halfway across the map.
Another solution just came to me though. Engage the Mutas with Vikings, and drop your Thors whilst they are distracted.
@Usul: Very interesting reading. Unfortunately I still think that build would meet some trouble against Mutas - I think he says that in the vs. Zerg section? The problem being that your Zerg opponent sees the bunkers, goes around and hits your resources.
But with 2 Rax, and assuming your opponent doesn't rush straight for Mutas, you'd probably have enough marines to fend off Muta harass.
Not sure if this build fits my playstyle vs. Zerg, I'd value early harassment over fast expands, but I'm a newb so I might be doing it all wrong.
also another question is if your opponent isnt going air units but rather say collosi or thors themselves
than is it smarter to get thors or siege tanks
because i used this build against another terran and my army size was superior
i had around 10 thors and a good amount of marines and marauders and 4 medivacs
he had around 4-6 medivacs
6 or so tanks
and marine marauder army
he came out on top tho
are tanks better against thors?
@DrunkPanda I read somewhere that Siege Tanks arguably the best ground unit in the game, when used well. In that same article it said mass tanks can easily knock out a few Thors.
However 10 Thors vs. 6 Tanks? Thors should've won. But, there are other factors, did either of you stim? Was he microing/focussing his units better than you? Did he have more/better upgrades?
That went a bit off topic, but if I scout Robo w/ Bay (meaning Colossi) I immediately get 4 Vikings ASAP, build up 8-10 total and keep them with my MMM ball. Air units hard counter Colossi. Against Thors, apparently BC's are good but if you can get a ton of tanks out faster, then that's probably a good idea. Not sure if you'd siege them or not, though.
ah okay thanks man
and yes this was on jungle basin so i was moving to attack and he had his units on the high ground and his tanks were sieged so they could 2 easy shots off but i paniced and stimmed up the ramp so i wouldn't take another shot which was a bad idea because my units were softened up for him -__-"
Yeah, TvT has become my most difficult match-up. If it boils down to the inevitable Tank/Viking then I usually lose because I can't keep up macro-wise. Not sure how to go about TvT - any suggestions, guys?
TvZ is probably my favorite match-up, because I can easily put mech pressure on them very early, preventing them from teching to Mutas.
