A lot of people have been asking me questions since the Sydney qualifiers, so instead of replying via PM's, I thought I'd make this thread to collate all the answers, and provide a channel for further enquiries. I'll continue updating this post as more questions are asked/answered.
Q: When and where is the Melbourne event. A: August 27th, iBisQ. Details in this thread.
Q: Will the new Season 3 maps be included at the qualifiers? A: No. The maps for all WCGau qualifier events will be: MLG Metalopolis, GSL Crevasse, Tal’darim Altar (LE), MLG Xel’naga Caverns, MLG Shattered Temple, GSL Terminus SE and MLG Shakuras Plateau.
Q: Additional Rules / Tournament Format? A: Players who register for a WCG qualifying event should receive a 3 page handbook that I've written, containing tournament format and rules (via e-mail).
Q: How many more qualifying events are there [for StarCraft 2], and what will the grand final [autoberth] allocations be? A: Offline qualifier events will be held in Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne. There will be no offline event for Perth. There will be an online qualifier to cater for Perth/regional participants, however.
Q: Will the prizes at each qualifier be the same as Sydney? More? Less? Equivalent? What about the [$40] entry fee? A: Not 100% confirmed as we are tweaking the events now with committee input and feedback from the previous event. In all likelihood entry fee will be consistent to be fair to all states. Prizes may fluctuate depending on sponsor contribution.
Q: Was the total prize value of the Sydney qualifier reduced on the day? A: The total prize value was not changed. The prizes changed slightly as we were forced to swap the flights and accommodation component of the non-WCG games and use the funds from these to increase the prize pool for the national final (didn't affect SC2). There was a lot of misinformation and conjecture flying around prior to that event, which is why we are endeavouring to keep the community well informed with threads like these.
Q: Will the map pool and bracket format be the same for the remaining qualifiers? What about the grand finals? A: Expect continuity between events. I'll continue to endeavour for fairness (ie. Bo3, Double Elimination) however as always, this could be subject to change pending circumstances. Maps will be reviewed after the launch of Ladder season 3.
Q: Will we have commentators at the grand final? A: Yes! Although I'm not at liberty to say who it is yet.
Q: Will there be an Adelaide qualifier for SC2? A: (5/07/2011) It's actually on my list of confirmed events, however people in this thread have heard otherwise from the venue. So I'll look into this and get back to you. If this can't happen at AVcon, we might have a separate qualifying venue for SC2. A: (7/07/2011) Okay, I can confirm that we're definitely running a SC2 qualifier at AVCON over the weekend of July 22-24th. I don't know why the venue operators told people otherwise!
Q: How much will it cost to participate in the Adelaide WCG SC2 Qualifier? A: The entry fee will cost $10. However AVCON is also charging $40 for a two-day pass. ($30 for a single day, or $25 for students.) We're concerned that the number of participants may be lower than average since SC2 was not originally announced on the list of AVCON events, so please spread the word!
Q: What is the Red Bull qualifier in Sydney? A: Similarly to the launch event, this will be for console games only.
Q: Can Australians who are currently overseas eligible to participate in the online qualifier? A: Yes.
Q: When will the online qualifiers be held? A: September. I'll provide more specifics closer to date, as I don't want to clash with other events which may occur around that time. Trust me, I'll make sure everyone hears about it. This will most likely be a two-day event, with a slightly different format for the opening rounds (ie. group stages). Depends on participant numbers.
Q: Is there going to be a 2nd qualifier for Sydney? A: Not for StarCraft 2, no.
Q: The advertised prizes were $600 cash and $1000 in prizes, but I was told I would receive $500 cash and $750 in prizes. A: I think you were told the wrong information. I'll chase this up and confirm.
Q: Can a non-Australia citizen participate in the events? A: Yes, you can participate. As per WCG tradition, I think you'll be eligible for prizes, but you will forfeit the qualifying spot at the National Finals. I'll chase this up, but I doubt this policy has changed.
Q: When will I receive my prizes from the Sydney qualifier? A: I have nothing to do with prize distribution, but I'll chase this up. I'll try to ensure an ETA is given at future events.
Q: When/where is the Brisbane qualifier?? A: The WCG qualifiers (for all games) will be held at Elysium (Fortitude Valley) on September 3rd/4th. Not sure which day has been allocated to SC2 yet, I'll post once it's been finalised.
I don't think that the adelaide wcg qualifiers includes SC2. Basically they cant get good internet at the convention centre, and theres no mention of a sc2 qualifier on avcon's site.
From what i've heard from my sources the Online qualifier will have limited spots, and priority given to players in areas that can't attend (easily) one of the offline events (ie: Perth, NT, Regional towns)
I finally got a email from WCG! But i'm wondering, the guy running the syd event towards the end who took down my details said the prizes was something like $500 and $750 in products, which was less that it was advertised (i believe) $600 / $1000 products could you help me confirm the prizes derek!

As far as I'm aware prizes were as below.
StarCraft II 1v1 Prizes:
First Place – Free flights and accommodation to National Finals + $600 cash + $1000 in prizes
Second Place – Free flights and accommodation to National Finals + $300 cash + $500 in prizes
Third Place – Free flights and accommodation to National Finals + $100 cash + $250 in prizes
Fourth Place – Free flights and accommodation to National Finals + $250 in prizes
I think you have to be an aus citizen to participate in wcg aus man... (I could be completely wrong and no offence intended if you are infact an aus citizen :])
I remember asking on the AVCON forums a month or two back if they will hold a starcraft 2 tournament. About 10 others swarmed on the thread all demanding it, to which the organisers said they couldn't get reliable internet at the convention centre. So basically, if sc2 had lan, they'd do it.
On top of this, no listings at all of sc2 on their website.
Sure enough, it does show wcg qualifiers to be at avcon, but I think its just excluding sc2... I think it'd be safer to ask someone from avcon about the situation, maybe on their forums, but atm its looking like theres no sc2.
There will be broodwar at avcon though! (Although I don't think thats for wcg qualifying)

I assume this also includes australians who are currently overseas?
