Sc2SEA Masters Cup & GPD Gold, Platinum + Diamond Weekly Open
Hi all. Sc2sea would like to announce two new tournaments, the Masters Cup, and the Gold, Platinum + Diamond Weekly Open (GPD). These events will be held on Sundays on the SEA server. I think this day will suit the majority of gamers, a lot of people have the day off work, no school, etc, as well as not being a traditional ‘going out night’. Both events shall have casters and live streams for your viewing enjoyment.
Cash prizes will be on offer for all events, sponsored by myself, FaDeEdOne/Eddie. I've been thinking lately that i'd like to do something for the SEA community and share my love of the game with others. I'm not a great player, or caster, so sponsoring a tournament seems the best way to go, so hopefully you all jump on board and join up and play! Payments to the winners will be made via paypal.
I shall use this thread to explain both events, and ask for your feedback. This is not a signup thread!
The Gold, Platinum + Diamond Weekly Open is an event catered to the mid range bracket of the SEA community. It can be hard to find friendly community events online for players once they qualify from Gold, and the gap between Platinum + mid Diamond to high Diamond + Master is quite substantial, and often a long journey to progress up the ranks. The only choices usually available are to join the larger competitions where Masters and high Diamond level players dominate, often resulting in quick and disappointing exits for such mid ranged/skilled/experienced players. But now there is an event just for you guys with a small cash prize available to the winner!
The GPD’s will be held on the first 3 Sundays in a 4 week period. The event shall start as a 64 player competition, but may grow in future weeks depending upon how quickly we fill up the spots. It will be a single elimination style tournament.
Prizes: A weekly $10 prize shall be given to the winner of the event.
However, there is also another important prize from the GPD’s, as the top 8 from each week shall qualify for a spot in the Sc2sea Masters Cup on the 4th Sunday, giving those who have proven themselves a chance to test their stuff against the best in the region, and play for the larger $70 prize! Wildcard qualifying spots may also be given for impressive play outside of the top 8.
Tournament Eligibility: You must be in the Gold, Plat or Diamond league (1v1 - SEA license). Diamond players must be below 2600pts. It shall increase weekly, and will be updated in the event threads. Sorry to those above, but you are welcome to join the Masters Cup. Diamond players above the points cut off registering for the GPD will be disqualified.
The first GPD Open shall begin this Sunday 20/2/11; games start at 7pm AEST/4pm SGT.
Brackets shall be posted in the sign up thread on game day.
Additional information such as Map pool, chat channels, casters/stream address shall be posted in the event sign up threads
The Masters Cup is for the best of SEA. Top Diamond to Master players; highly skilled opponents and good games aplenty, but only one can be the monthly Master! Do you have what it takes? Winner walks away with the glory and a $70 prize. It will be a single elimination style tournament.
This shall be a 128 player event. The majority will be high Diamond – Master, however there will be a few qualifiers from other events (GPD Weekly Open), wildcards, and perhaps surprise guests.
Tournament Eligibility: You must be Diamond (3000+pts) or in Master league (1v1 - SEA license). Diamond players must be above 3000pts. Sorry to those below, but you are welcome to join the Gold, Platinum + Diamond Weekly Open, it is another pathway into this event. Players registering for the Masters Cup below Diamond 3000+pt will be disqualified.
The first Masters Cup shall begin Sunday 13/3/11; games start at 6pm AEST/3pm SGT.
Brackets shall be posted in the sign up thread on game day.
Additional information such as Map pool, chat channels, casters/stream address shall be posted in the event sign up threads
Thoughts/questions welcome

Nice work Eddie I'm definitely looking forward to this tournament; you've filled the niche that sc2sea.com has been missing and added some nice cash-prizes to top it off!
I'm sure it'll be an awesome tournament; look forward to seeing it become a regular event. If you need any help, you've got my MSN.
you should make diamond cutoff at 2750 at least (including bonus pool if you want) as that is the "default" value (when added with current overall total bonus pool).
Also very good starting times waiting till 10/11pm for a tournament here in Sydney is not good
yup i agree. diamond cutoff at 2800+90 with each coming week would make more sense.
if not, anyone in diamond would be above 2100 just by playing mroe games
People under 2100 in Diamond are clearly inactives (Bonus pool around 2750 atm and if you're losing more than you're winning, youll get demoted) and keeping the figure there only promotes them to stay there so they are at the top of their tourney.
Don't take this the wrong way from me tho, I think its an amazing idea, Plat players in particular really miss out on tourneys.
i think this is a great idea, lots of platinum - diamond players now have something fun to play in without those master bullies spoiling their fun! btw benji = master bully, win trader, etc!!
Thanks for feedback regarding diamond point rankings.
Perhaps 2300+ points which is the top 700?
Or 2500+, which is the top 500?
Could go higher, and it won't affect the Masters Cup much, but as a result it would allow higher diamonds to play against gold and platinum players in the GPD weekly, which might effect that competition, which is aimed at mid-level players. Need to find a fair balance.

Thanks. I figure Sunday afternoon/evening will be good for most people.

I think it should be around 2500 + diamond since most diamond below 2000 are likely to be inactive players compared to 2500 players who played quite alot and yet cant break the 2500 barrier. But i have a question, i play both zerg and toss on separate accounts. I have a master zerg and diamond toss. Can my protoss join the GPD tourney and my zerg join the Masters Cup?
6pm AEST/3pm SGT would be fine by me, unless it's not good for a lot of players?

Shouldn't be a problem. What is the other account details? You would be locked in as Protoss for the GPD though.
I think 6PM AEST would just make it slightly more easier for us Aussies because I'm guessing this tourny will definitely run over a 3hour span and lots of us have school/work monday morning. So 6PM allows it to finish at 10PM even if it goes for 4 hours. So if a one hour push forward could be done, that would do wonders.
I am a 2.8k diamond toss. The thing about being in diamond is that nobody knows who you're playing with but only yourself. As for me, i play alot in 1v1, but most of the times my match up are against platinum players as i always have a 50/50 chance of winning against diamond players.
But due to the fact that i got a 52% winning ratio and i abuse all the bonus pool, my points is 2.8k but the FACT is my skills are not a top high diamond player. Making a person like me to play against a REAL diamond or MASTER player will just be demoralising.
So i hope you can make some changes to the GPD tournament. As high point does not meant uyoure good, I AM PLAYING AGAINST PLAT PLAYERS as a 2.8k diamond player. Does that meant i should straight away join in Master's Cup? I feel kinda sad about this. =(
I hate to be trash in a very fast game as i won't learn anything as the skills gap is way too big.
