As we were lucky enough to get to witness and cast an exciting Clan War, between the old school AxS and the brand new HvG, I figured I'd give a brief synopsis of the games in the series.
Game 1: AxS MacroJackson (P) v HvG Danny (Z) on Deadwing
MacroJackson, playing off-race as protoss in preference to playing a ZvZ, started with a cannon rush and destroyed Danny's first expansion. Danny responded with a relentless roach push, taking his natural at his third. While it looked good for Danny for several minutes, the power of immortals could not be denied, and MacroJackson put game one on the board for AxS
Game 2: AxS MacroJackson (Z) v HvG TuO (T) on Foxtrot Labs
MacroJackson returned to the Swarm, and as every good zerg knows: banelings kill Terran. And there were banelings. Oh gods were there banelings. It was almost game over for TuO when baneling mines destroyed most of his advancing bio force, but the finishing blow was a massive baneling bust that rolled through his bases with a callous brutality. Game two for AxS.
Game 3: AxS MacroJackson (Z) v HvG JevynSlayer (Z) on Overgrowth
Clearly tired of macro games, despite his name, MacroJackson surprised JevynSlayer with a 10-pool plus proxy spine. The Queen pull at the end was hilarious, but unnecessary, and game three went to AxS with MacroJackson looking untouchable.
Game 4: AxS MacroJackson (Z) v HvG RammPage (P) on Overgrowth
RammPage, perhaps as revenge for Danny, attempted a cannon rush, but it was stopped by MacroJackson's second 10-pool. However, the lings were held back by RammPage's wall-off, so MacroJackson took his gold. RammPage started his next phase of aggression with DT drops with additional warp-ins to MacroJackson's main, but MacroJackson holds. RammPage, knowing that Dark Templars are a good unit, dropped MacroJackson's gold base next, and warped in zealots to help. MacroJackson held again, and for a while it seemed he would prevail once more. A flood of banelings crushed Rammpage's natural, but that didn't stop the HvG protoss from holding with collossus and immortal. RammPage pushed back with a counter attack, however everyone's focus was on the traitor probe trying to kill his immortal. Yet even that did not stop the protoss counter with immortal, zealots, collossus and DTs. The immortal, evidently angered by the probe's treachery, racked up over 30 kills before dying, most of those roaches. A Hero Archon made over 60 kills. RammPage prevented the all-kill with a game in HvG's favour.
Game 5: AxS FrostbitE (Z) v HvG RammPage (P) on Merry Go Round
Proving that Has' performance against Jaedong all that time ago still lingers in the memory, yet another PvZ started with yet another cannon rush. FrostbitE holds the cheese, but a greedy third nexus from RammPage goes unscouted and unpunished. RammPage, remembering that oracles are a good unit, builds an oracle and phoenix. FrostbitE however scouted the Stargates and the oracle died to a spore crawler. The phoenix kills an overlord before retreating. RammPage committed to the Skytoss transition and built Voidrays. FrostbitE attacks with a metric shitload of Roaches, and we got to see the famous Voidray vs Roach engagement. RammPage forgot to press E, and the Roaches took out the nexus at his third, then at the natural, before being cleaned up by the voids. FrostbitE uses the freed up supply to Tech switch to Hydralisks. Hydras vs Carrier/Voidrays clashed at Frostbite's base, and some focus fire on the carriers allowed the voidrays to clean up the first wave of hydras. The Casters' jimmies got rustled as the first wave of voidrays was finally cleared up by reinforcing hydras. Voidrays were continually rallied across, and died one-by-one to hydra reinforcements until the RammPage conceded defeat in the face of FrostbitE's counter push..
Game 6: AxS Frostbite (z) v HvG Ajushi (z) on Merry Go Round
You know what's better than Roach Wars in ZvZ? Ling Wars! Frostbite went 14/14 with an earlier speed upgrade and the slaughter began. Ajushi's slowlings were caught halfway across the map and died, his natural fell, and his banelings failed to get enough connections to make a difference. Frostbite ended the series convincingly, with AxS 5-1 against HvG
The games were well played by all, and damn fun to watch!
On a side note, IXL formally apologises for our caster's taste in youtube videos =p
(My eyes, they bleed. DAMN YOU, VOJ. There is not enough mindbleach in the WORLD.)
