OSC OSC Mid Year Report, Participation Results + Championship News

It's been a massive start to 2016!
Below is a recap, stats and results from Jan-end of June!

Big thanks to our tournament partners, the OSC/SC2Online team, our sponsors, and most importantly all the players and fans!

League Stats!

157 Completed Partnered tournaments!
718 players have earned OSC points!
$126,905 has been won by players!
Our most active player is Elusory, who played in 109 tournaments!
52 players have all won at least 1 tournament
ByuN has the most tournament wins at 17
105 $ Bounties claimed for beating favoured opponents ($2565)

Participation Competitions!

*Voidreaver 26

The OSC team are happy to announce the Jan-June winners of the our Participation Bonus competition, a new initiative we launched in 2015, which was a huge success! It doesn't matter what league, Bronze - Grand Master, it's all about participation! You don't even have to win. We know who our top players are, we run tournaments to see who is the best on the day/month/year, but what we really want to know is, who is the most dedicated?

We decided to split the year into 2 half seasons (Jan-end of June, July-end of year), and by breaking the system down into 2 'seasons', we hope it should refresh the 2nd half of the year, as if you came in late 'season 1', or took time away from the game for a while, you can still go hard and earn $'s in 'season 2'

OSC World Rankings!

We are happy to officially announce that the end of year OSC Championship will increase from top 32, to feature the top 50 players! The prizepool will be a min $7500 AUD!

Given the depth of talent, increase in competitors, tournaments and overall size of the League in 2016, we feel top 50 is the new benchmark, and still reflects the highest tier of players. Working with teams and players (including launching our own OSC Sponsorships), we are very happy to see many of those top 50 players earn salary/incentives from our rankings (/in conjunction with other events), due to the ongoing nature of the league, the level of and size of the competition, and marketability! We expect this to become more common, and perhaps even increase to top 100 if the League continues to grow at current rate!

So while the rankings system is working fantastically, as the main benefit for players and teams comes throughout the year via rankings and ongoing data, everyone loves to see all the top and hardest working players battle it out to find our OSC Champion!

So as we plan ahead to the end of year Championship, we still want to implement a format that reward those who finished highly throughout the year, so will be looking into the best format over the next few months.

Example of Championship for top 32 players.

We may simply extend the lower bracket to include players 33-50, or we could look at doing a Round Robin Bo2 SSL Format where x amount of players qualify for the lower bracket. Or something completely new... If you have any ideas, please share!

At the end of June 2016, these are our top 50 players!

OSC Sponsors!
Without these companies contributing to our League it's fair to say we wouldn't be were we are now! All these companies have a long history of supporting Starcraft 2 and esports in the OSC region. They care about the scene and our community. So many thanks to them all! If you esports fans, players etc can send them some love and thanks for supporting SC2 + the Oseanic StarCraft 2 Championship it would be appreciated in return. They all are leaders in their industry, so if it comes down to a choice between brands, pick these guys who support esports!

I wish there was a full SC2Online calendar we could view, to see all previous events.

Minus KK winning that cup (that a south american played in.. lul), we're really spoiled for choice! http://imgur.com/a/5NObR

All we have to look forward to are ESL's $1k cups once a month, and the odd SEA-only event every other week.

Soooooo many SEA/Aus people have shit ping to kr & tw (upwards of 250), and unplayable ping to anything on NA, which sometimes includes our only bastion of hope - West Coast.

Even with the whole 'participate, you'll still get points' mindset - It's pretty tough for so many people I've talked to to actually justify spending an evening playing on unplayable ping to acquire 2.5 - 10 points at a time, when they're of the ability to win most of the games they'd lose because of the ping handicap.

It really can't be denied that there's something fundamentally wrong with it all, atleast from the perspective of a bunch of SEA players who are being outright cucked because they're only able to win consolation prizes like participation incentives. (don't get me wrong, i love the participation stuff, but that's really all most people have hopes to win now)

However, with all that being said, and not having access to full records and statistics... I'm fairly certain I can say there's certainly been periods in SEA's history where we've had more SEA events/SEA-only events lol. wT weekly, pX weekly, more regular SEAcrafts and other regular cups come to mind.

Not sure why the negativity Rize, if you step back and look big picture, and how things have improved for the most competitive players. - (You can't really build any premier system around casual players, although they do play an important part. You start from the top.)

No doubt non SEA events have increased (China + NA - most of which are open to SEA players), but SEA events/SEA friendly server timezone events have also increased - Masters Cup biweekly, up from monthly, Community Open weekly/biweekly, more SEACraft Melee's this year than in year before, new ASL Bacon SEA Weekly, XDC Cup. - All funded by OSC team.

Then add in your ESL/Blizz ANZ Cups + WCS for some nice $$!

Perhaps you want more SEA stuff, which is fine, and great! But maybe others need to step up too.

SEA players have access to most of those other events available (where we see SEA players having deep runs at times!)

$3650 Bounties have been claimed (admittedly not all by SEA, but nor should it be) - always a good reason to play!

Plus those nice participation/home region bonuses (increased on last year) - Handy $, but more importantly another tool to market yourself!

Still seems to be a bit of confusion by some how the OSC system works. Sure winning tournaments gets you $'s and points, but being consistent and active is more important. aka being in that top 50 of the World Rankings. Without breaching confidentiality, can happily say more and more players (including SEA players) are earning salary/incentives from this system. And that will likely increase as we grow further! What's better for teams and players? An ongoing, $200k League, with competitive ranking, or a few isolated weekly/monthly region locked events with nothing to tie together, probably won between 6-8 guys, and only useful in isolation?

While i do agree with you NA server changes in LOTV seem to have made ping and hosting worse for all regions, KR is not as badly effected, and largely depends upon your individual provider. We have tried to make the best of a bad situation re NA server, with splitting games. There's really little more we could do for international events (which have always been hosted on NA as the neutral SC2 server)...

SEACraft weekly replaced wT weekly, and px only ran a short time, and not at the same time by memory. No ESL Cups, no community opens, less Masters Cups, etc.

Having a balanced regional distribution in the rankings is good, as shows the depth of talent in the rankings, attracts different markets, and by association, the results/consistency of those ranked highly have more significance.

It's also important to remember that SEA is part of OSC, and has been tied with our WCS brothers for several years now. Together we are stronger!

I feel like at the start it was pretty shit, atm it's not the best for aus (since its 2 games on us west 1 game on aus) but I feel like eddie has made strides towards fixing it as best he can. It does suck that we have no aus server tournaments besides big monthly(ish) or wcs tournaments. I was pretty critical of osc for the first half of the year, but tbh it feels like it's lack of tournament organisers in sea rather than eddie's like of humanity.

Just my 2 cents, I feel like it does explain why a lot of people that did participate in the last 2 years stop participating as much this year.
