Hello SC2SEA, how have you been? Really? That is wonderful! It is good to see you again.
First of all, for those who don't know me, or have just plain forgotten I'm Lokth, its nice to meet you. Once upon a time I was a caster of just good old random community tournaments with a a select few regional tournaments under my belt as well.
What brings me here tonight is a simple question, should I come back. Should I cast once more? My casting life is an odd story. I started just randomly casting the weekly BSG (which sadly seems to have seen far better days then it current state). For over a year I casted the BSG most weeks with various guest casters or just solo.I also found myself casting the odd GPD when I wasn't playing in them, but the BSG was my home. I would have to say the biggest highlight of my casting career was being a guest caster for a few games during ACL Melbourne 2013 from the event, closely followed by casting AVCon 2013.
In the end, I burnt out. My love for SC2 dwindled, I no longer had #Passion. I even moved on the Hearthstone for awhile, but in the end my streaming just stopped (at its height no less). For those of you who haven't done it before, casting/streaming is actually very very tiring, especially if its solo. Talking, joking and paying attention to a screen for 3 hours or more can be taxing, especially after a day of work. Keeping up to date with the meta, the niche strategies just so I could talk about them in game, it was a lot of work. The funny thing is, I miss it. I miss having between game banter with chat. I miss Seeing a completely insane strategy some how work and pull off a win. I miss those rarer serious tournaments where I had the chance to cast the best our community had to offer, those amazing games that resulted in some of our lucky players going overseas to take on the very best. But I think I the thing I miss the most is the community, the interaction with the viewers, be it 3 or 500 people, the community is what made it worth it.
So my question is, should I return? It has been almost two years since I casted starcraft, over a year since I streamed anything. Is it worth coming back at this point?
If you have to ask, the answer is no - you'll burn out again.
Even if you don't have to ask, the answer is still no, but if you love doing it then the rejection won't deter you regardless. You might even enjoy it.
I reckon wait until Legacy of the void comes out to make such a black and white statement about coming back or not. It will bring a lot more people back to the game as well and is a fresh expansion, so you wont feel like you're missing two years of the metagame/history. You can always warm up your casting skills on HotS until the next expansion too if you really want to get back into it straight away. But like deth said, if you're asking a community whether you think you should come back or not then your confliction may interfere with your passion to return
In the end, it comes down to your enjoyment of the game and whether or not you want to pursue your interests in it again. Either way good luck and it's good to see you around again
Return because you want to play and cast sc2 again not to fill some need in the community. And if you really want to start casting again, there are plenty of tournaments that need a caster and this will only grow with LOTV on the way.
Welcome back dude.
Sure give it a go.
Either you'll enjoy it, or you wont. Its not a long term commitment, so why not try!
So simple and yet so true. I think I shall attempt a return! Guess I best try and get my stream up to snuff. Then I just need to find something to cast. Woo!
