I use a stack of paper as my mouse pad. Because of this I need to use my fore arm to anchor the paper while playing. This means my hand is about 20 cm from the edge of the desk. I think I remember day9 saying the optimal position is using the claw grip right at the edge of the desk.
How do other people set themselves up and do you think it makes a difference?

hmm just checked and i do what day9 says, claw grip at the edge of the desk. thats just what i find is most comfotable for me.
How long is a piece of string? I use a mutated claw grip, but can't stand claw grip mice. I have my hand over near the edge of the desk but the mouse pointed towards the monitor, so moving the cursor straight means moving the hand at an angle relative to the desk. I move the mouse by moving my fingers, only large movements get more, and that comes from the shoulder only. Long live the most f'ed up mouse control of all time. Still not as weird as Glade's boxing motion.
