Hey all, I'd like to suggest a 4v4 tourney for the SEA community. As a mass gamer myself, whenever I try to search for games,I find that searching for 4v4 is quicker than 1v1 if it is during the wee hours ( 3-4am ) singapore time. There is a lot of clans with good players around but they only compete in 1v1 so,I tot that maybe introducing 4v4 into the picture will create more excitements. 4v4 is never as balanced as 1v1 but I believe if marketed properly, we shud be able to gather a lot of participants.
4v4 is to 1v1 as backyard cricket is to the ashes. Everyone can do it, and its fun, but noone takes it seriously and noone competes in it.
But remember a few years ago XXXX held a pretty successful Beach Cricket Tri-Nations series. So yes, it's still only beach cricket, but it can be marketable. You'll never get a long-term competition going, but for a one off event the novelty factor could carry it along.

That series only happened because they got the pro players to play in it. Pro sc2 players will not play in a 4v4 tourney without serious incentive, and if there was incentive, a 1v1 tourney would be better.
Professional and serious gamers are never interested in 4v4 and I myself dont play 4v4 competitively. I dont care if I'm diamond or bronze in team games but to be honest, I've played quite a number of epic 4v4 games. If we only hold 1v1 tourneys,we will only manage to tap into the network of solo players which is quite small. The mass market is in the 4v4 game. Im sure that a lot of top players out there will be excited about a tourney tat caters for 4v4 players. Like I said, I dont enjoy 4v4 as much as I enjoy 1v1 but if there is a 4v4 tourney, it will attract a lot of participants.

You say 4v4 is more popular, well heres some stats from sc2ranks:
1v1 Players on Ladder: 26737
Team 4v4: 2822 (x4=11288)
Random 4v4: 14514
Assuming theres zero overlap (and there is quite alot of it), theres more 1v1 players than 4v4 players. Not to mention in a 4v4 league, the brackets are 4x smaller, meaning that even if you get the same number of players, the tourney itself could only be 3 rounds deep. With 64 players, you only get 16 teams which means you only have 2 rounds of games, then the semis which is not very good for watchability.
4v4 is not the mass market and its entertainment value outside of team mono-battles is very limited. Watching 16 gate vs 16 gate (or equivalent timing attack) is NOT entertaining. It's almost as bad an idea as competitive FFA's. There's a reason the Brood War scene in Korea steered clear of 4v4's; even 2v2's got canned after a while.
