Starcraft 2 Scene News
- with Hugetree and Deathsfang!
crAzerk: This was supposed to be 2 separate posts, but I was away for the past 5 days so I didn't get to publish Monday's edition of the Scene News. Sorry for that!
This week we’ve had a lot of action going on around the world with the NASL reaching its end and the GSL with its electrifying finish over the weekend!
Also, is anyone still feeling a sense of loss after MLG? Where there were so many awesome streams with great casters? If you are, FRET not, because Dreamhack Summer just finished and it was an equally fantastic event with almost every game streamed live, regardless of the players playing! With a new tournament comes a new winner, I shall not reveal yet, let the guessing begin! If you have a friend that doesn’t know about SC2SEA… You need to go tell your friend now!
1. Team Liquid Fantasy GSTL game! Fun fun fun!
Recently Team Liquid has made a game which basically involves making your very own dream GSTL team! The only thing you need to do to play this awesome game is to have an account on Team Liquid. (if you don’t I’m ashamed of you) Furthermore, you can post your team in Benji’s thread here.
2. New SC2 Ladder maps for Season 3!
This is the thing we’ve been waiting for. We’ve endured (especially you Zergs) the agony of Slag Pits, BackWater Gulch and….The dreaded Delta Quadrant for too long! It is time… to get new ladder maps! If you want to check out descriptions of the new maps you can head on over to LennX’s sexy summary of them right… HERE!!!
3. The Heroes of SC2SEA!
An absolute must visit if you haven't already. In nirvAnA's words "Thought it would be nice if all the heroes of sc2sea had cool customised anime avatars of themselves!! Heroes are those who kindly dedicate their time and efforts regularly to make the sc2sea events enjoyable for us." Check out the amazing avatars that were made here and see how many people you can recognise! The coolest thing to happen in sc2sea in awhile!
Tournament Results
1. LG Cinema 3D Special League FINAL
This match pitted MVPDongRaeGu (DRG) against ScFou, two extremely young players who have shown good performances in recent GSTL or GSL tournaments. DRG was known as the Terran Sniper, taking games off very notable Terrans in the recent GSTL, while Sc will be known as the guy who almost beat Nestea in the semi finals, pushing the eventual champion to a nerve tingling game 5 on TDA.
2. GSL SUPER TOURNAMENT FINAL
After God knows how long of intense GSL action, on the 18th of June, the last 2 remaining warriors battled it out in a bo7 series to determine who is the best Starcraft 2 player out there! The final match was held between Polt and MMA, pitting the MLG Champion against a Terran player who is often overshadowed by MarineKing. Can MMA take out the second player from the Prime Clan, and henceforth secure his second major championship? Or will Polt take revenge for his teammate, who took 2 games before crashing to a 3-2 defeat, and thus preventing an all Prime final?
After many twists and turns, many ups and downs, battles won and lost- Nah i'm just screwing with you, Polt demolished MMA 4-0. GG NO RE. But the sad thing was all TvT from the Semi finals! T T
3. Dreamhack Summer 2011
This was held in Sweden and mainly casted by DAY9 and Apollo, bringing to viewers 3 days of intense competition between players hailing from all over the world. Though MKP, Nada and FruitDealer pulled out before the event causing replacements to be called up, the event was still a major crowd puller! At the end of it all, a non-Korean (though some might differ) managed to secure the championship over the Korean Wc3 "Third Race" Moon!
Congratulations to LIQUID HUK!! His ownage Forcefields, with his calm and safe play, managed to overcome Moon 3-2 in the final match. Not letting the big stage get to him, Huk played stellarly, proving that Non-Koreans can mix it up with Koreans (and that Protoss is imbaa??) Again Congratulations to HUK, and we await to see him in action again in GSL July!
Ro16 MC 2 : 1 Idra
WhiteRa 0 : 2 Moon Naniwa 2 : 0 BratoK Huk 2 : 0 Predy
Mana 1 : 2 July
Ret 1 : 2 Socke
MC knocks Idra out of another tournament!
QuarterFinals Huk 2 : 0 Socke July 2 : 1 Sen
MC 1 : 2 Bomber Moon 2 : 0 Naniwa
Lucky there was a self kill by a fellow Korean, leaving three to progress to the Semis and hence preventing an all Korean Top 4!
MC 2 : 0 Cruncher
Moman 1 : 2 Kiwikaki MC 2 : 0 Kiwakaki
Next Week
That's all for this week, and see you guys again next week! With the GSTL and GSL resuming, there is going to be plenty of SC2 action! How will the foreigners do in Korea? And how will FXO perform? Good luck to all of them and let's hope they bring some amazing performances!
Also, the SEACL is coming to an exciting finale, be sure to catch it this Sunday!
