Hi, I'm a representative from a small business located in Melbourne, Victoria named Vinnicave and we're planning on hosting a free Amateur league tournament for players ranging from Bronze to gold. There will be a prize pool for this:
1st prize:
-Mouse (Gaming Mouse)
2nd prize:
-Mouse Pad
3rd prize:
-5% discount to our store.
I'm really just here to see the number of people who would be interested.
I'll be doing a post count to the responses so try not to double post and the higher the response rate, the higher the chance this will go through.
The system will be run online in a double elimination where games are all spectated by admins who have experience in the game to prevent smurfs.
Edit: Will be a Melbourne based online tournament.
Edit 2: Tournament location will become Australia wide as we can ship nation wide.
"Double elimination where games are all spectated by admins"
Logistical nightmare unless you have a team of 20+ admins, DE takes long enough as is, especially with 40+ people.
Other then that looks like a pretty sick event, look forward to it.
Yeah, that was the only thing I was sketchy about. It will definitely be looked into and the tournament should span over two days time. We will try our best to make it work.
What are the restrictions? I mean, does the person have to live in Melbourne to participate?
If not, I'd quite enjoy taking part (:
Sorry, i should've mentioned this earlier. No idea how it skipped my mind. But it would be located in Melbourne due to the fact that prizes are Products and not cash. I can see in the future however if this goes well, cash prizes will be nation wide.
You can put a few other fail safes in to prevent smurfing (See the BSG that's regularly held here on SC2SEA) where you must provide account details so that admins can check that you do in fact have an active account that is placed in a BSG league. Furthermore, from there you can look at the league history and match history to make sure that it's legit and otherwise follow it up with asking the player for some more information if you're not convinced.
You can also ask all players to email their replays in so that you can double check any of them if needed. I'd suggest shooting Asrathiel a message on sc2sea (: she helps run the BSG tourneys on this site. i'm sure she'd have some pro tips ^.^

Best of luck!
Awesome! Thanks a lot for that. Will look further into it when I have time
That's a pretty decent prize pool especially considering it's only for golds (and under). I think that a tonne of smurfs will be signing up so maybe you just make it open? and have a smaller prize pool for a bsg one maybe?

Yep, that has already been considered. However, we're doing this in hopes to introduce casual games to gaming equipment and maybe change their perception on these products. But thanks for the suggestion, it shows that money is the winning factor here.

Hi.
As others have said, spectating all games would be a nightmare unless you had 10 billion admins, or only a few players. Most BSGers around here are pretty good at letting me know when they thing someone suss has entered the tourney, and if any suspicions are brought up, then you can analyse the replays.

Cash is never a good idea for tourneys with league restrictions.
Restricting it to Melbourne would severely limit the amount of players you'll get- if you're looking for product exposure, consider paying postage to the winner within Australia at least.
Thanks a lot Asrathiel. All your points seem very true and is changing my plan on how this will operate. A new system will definitely be implemented to suit the BSG tournaments. Postage could definitely be an option, I will consider that point. I just feel that cash is a better idea in terms of transferring, however, i understand this will bring in people of different leagues and thus, i wish to thoroughly check every game to ensure it turns out fair. Right now, most of my initial thoughts i realize was wishful thinking but maybe it could work if the games were single-elimination instead.
Here's food for though. I am diamond on NA and gold sea. I legit tried to promote from gold on sea before giving up. I had 70% win rate and still placed gold at the begining of this season. SEA leagues are completely meaningless.

I heard a similar story coming from a friend. Masters in NA, platinum in SEA. I guess the most accurate way to determine this is through NA ranking.
I would love to play this tournament but as both you and asrathiel have pointed out, Melbourne and cash prizes don't peak interest. I live up here in Cairns and I know there are a few BSG plays here that would love to play in a tournament for a new keyboard or mouse (who doesn't!). Put the points put forward will cover everything and this is just to let you know that you have a whole nation full of BSG players so if you have a successful LAN then you can set it up to go state, then nation wide if possible! but this will definitely work if you put time and effort behind it!
P.S. I help Asrathiel with BSG so I know the admin nightmares so you can message me too!
