see me looking up at you and judging you in my picture
its because you are
That's just my opinion.
Can we get any more information about how exactly she obtained this position? Did she send in a demo of her work? Was she scouted? Did someone help her?
I have no issue with her accent, Starcraft is something I want to see big globally, different accents & culture are gonna come into play with such a widely spread event.
Agreed, sc2 fans should be embracing diversity, it shows how widely loved the game is! Instead all those TL fags just want a homogenised, americanised approach to professional starcraft.
I don't want to sound like a dick but I don't like her commentating at all. She doesn't have enough personality to be a successful commentator and hearing her commentating side by side with the likes of Destiny and his crew just makes me cringe.
Good luck anyway.
A different reason for me not liking her commentating is when she does constant whining about terran/protoss being op, once or twice is fine but every ******* time a protoss or terran is up against a zerg she has to always blabber on about imbalance, have to mute the stream when she goes on those rants, very annoying.
Other than that its ok, the accent isnt that bad, lets see how well both her and torch do in code a casting.

Statements like this make me annoyed. SC2 is going to be a SPECTATOR esport. so regardless of personal feelings whether you like kelly's casting or not. The majority voice will win. IF you take the time to read that entire TL thread yes you have the few retarded 1 liners but the majority are legitimate complaints about her style which they are allowed to have. Like it or not, the majority of SC2 Players at the moment ARE from the USA (according to sc2ranks.com)
Some things she cant change like her accent (well technically she can but w/e) some things she will need to work hard on like the points brought up in that TL thread. she will have a season of code A to show us what she can do and like her or hate her. GOM is a business and they will go with the direction that makes them the most $$ if people stop watching because of it which is possible then they obviously will change their mind.

Yeh I didn't want to really say anything about her accent but it is quite a problem. She doesn't speak fluent English and sometimes it is rather hard for me to understand her. I don't normally have problems understanding foreign accents since I grew up around people with a range of different accents. Since she is now becoming a professional commentator and will be doing this (hopefully) for a living, I believe she should take steps in order to correct deficiencies in her English which would most likely make her cast far more enjoyable to listen to. I think she should have received speech therapy earlier if this was the career path she wished to take.
No matter how great her ability is to break down what is happening in a game, it is worthless if she isn't able to communicate her thoughts effectively to the listener. I believe a professional commentator has to bring something to the table that others can't and I don't believe she really does that.
To be perfectly honest, I don't really enjoy Kelly's casting, but it's certainly not cuz of her accent. But since she's going anyway, I'm just gonna throw a few advices there:
- Avoid commenting on game balance and players' blunders.
- Speak slowly and clearly.
- Avoid stating the obvious, but comment on the build/intention the player is going for and how feasible it is instead.

I'm not quite sure exactly which part of what I said makes you annoyed. I never said they aren't allowed to complain, what I meant was simply that one of the main reasons they're complaining is because they're not getting their Western commentating. Which makes ME annoyed. I agree that the majority voice will win, it's just sad what that prospect brings.

Don't pull this Singlish bullshit here. There are plenty of Singaporeans here including myself and I'm sure all of us know this isn't the issue here, and that we can use bigger words and have a clearer diction even in our accents.
The fact is that she hasn't displayed an extensive knowledge of the game. She hasn't made herself more comprehensible. I have pride for our country and I love Singlish but this is the international scene and we have to be sure that we are understood. Singlish is colloquial, it's not something you push out when you have audiences from all over the world.
I agree with Glade, some Americans don't understand Australian accent when we talk fast cos of our slang, but once they get to know us they understand fine. They're just upset it's not an American caster.
Is this some sort of a joke?
Edit: Not a joke it seems.
Does anyone else think that GOM is being sexist here? There are plenty of good casters in SEA who speak fluent english, have much more in depth analysis and don't whine about protoss and terran being OP - and yet GOM picks Kelly...seemingly only because she is a female?
This to me just seems a bit sexist.

I must admit that I do have trouble understanding Kelly but that's mainly because I'm hearing impaired (hopefully a much more legitimate reason than pure unfamiliarity!), which makes unfamiliar accents a lot more difficult to determine.
I think it's great that Kelly's managed to secure such an opportunity, and I wish her the best of luck! I do feel that everyone has space for improvement, so if most of TL dislikes her current state of casting, I'm sure that with professional feedback from GOM she'll gradually improve.
