For me I find once you hit hell, tag a long with a friend who has done the quests ahead and let him pull you to Act 3-4. There is really no point doing the same quests over and over again, it just takes a long time and you want exp / gold / items ASAP so you can get to inferno. Also, Tier 2 can be a real bitch in hell mode, lots of chain mobs, lots of corpse runs. So as soon as you can survive doing it solo, do the Asmoden runs which is the last quest of Act 3. For me it was when i hit level 55ish, if you have good gear, you probably can do it earlier.
It allows you to hand in two quests (kill asmoden) and the mini messenger quest after that. Asmoden drops mostly blues but he did drop one rare in the 30 runs I did which brought me from L55 to L59 in about 2hours + the normal grind will probably take 10+ hours minimum. There is a treasure bandit half the time, the mass spiders which give way more exp then they should and 4-5 chests. The mobs also sometimes have great drops and if i get chain blue mobs with molten / vortex i just quit the game and remake. Another alternative is to run past the blue chain mobs (wiz can teleport / monk can immortal / dh can strafe) and go straight to asmoden to farm the 2 quests.
I feel its the best farming spot in the game atm. Share yours!
As for HC the best farming spot is wherever you can farm that is the safest possible while still earning you at least some XP/money. HOWEVER, you also want a place that is going to keep you alert so that you don't run back to where you were up to and die. So it's a bit of a trade off.

For wizard, the underground castle is a good place to farm.
All you need as follows:
1 imba tanker to block the choke
2 happy spamming (blizzard is nice with 20 mana rune)
with around 1800 dps u can clear the mob very fast and this work on mini boss too.
Noteable item which i have got there include several wand with damage range from 110 to 140 dps.
Ps:i do not keep item for other class as i will past it to my teammate or savage if noone need them.
Hope it helps.Thank you
Nirvana is right.. From what I've experimented with, the fastest LEVELLING route is doing azmodan again and again, you get so much XP its not even funny! For eg, if you're lvl 46 and need 50 to get Hell mode, run azmodan and you'll get to lvl 50 in no time! Same with lvl 5X to lvl 60 for inferno mode.. Azmodan is just the best
That's for Act 3 though, and if you'd like some fast and easy XP because you're not at Act 3 yet for any reasonn, do the Maghda's quest which involves you teleporting to a way point, go into the city clear some easy monsters, and kill one of the easiest boss in D3 and turn in quest! But this is nowhere as fast as azmodan cause in azmodan you get to turn in double quest (make sure to go into the tower to watch the cutscene in order to turn in the 2nd quest!)
However, at lvl 60, the buff Nephalem valor gives you up to 75% magic and gold find which bumps farming up a notch, if you purely wanna farm gold and lewts to sell, go somewhere where you can put on sub-par gear with MF and gold find and still hold first click and kill things whilst only casting few spells!
If you wanna farm Good gear, you'll have to go to really hard places AKA INFERNO and just selectively look for rares and elites which is possble to kill..
Examples of possible to kill elites for melee are mobs with enchantments like
Teleporter
Extra health
Motar
Fast
Vampiric
Invulnerable minions
Electrified
Knockback
Vortex
Best pray they have at least 3 of the above so that its easy to kill
For ranged:
Plagued
Invulnerable minions
Molten
Fast
Extra health
Vampiric
Electrified
Knockback
Enchantments that everyone kind of hate:
Frozen
Arcane enchanted
Example of a combination that is nearly impossible to kill on certain mobs ( some rares of certain mobs are really easy no matter what enchantment they are )
1: Molten
2: Horde
3: Arcane Enchanted
4: Vortex
Especially in a tight hallway, I mean seriously - where the hell are you supposed to stand if this appears on a mob with in built teleport like the meteor guys in act 4?
Standing near is not an option, standinf far is also not an option
Oh and in Inferno mode, there is a time limit for you to kill off rares and elites before they get a buff which makes you take damage over time that increases over time.. Don't remember what's the time limit though!
I don't think you'd find many people willing to share farming tips. Most people just farming have spots which they don't really want to reveal since blizz patched a farming spot the moment it went viral.
4million gold so far! : ) trying to be able to max out gear to kill everything.
Was watching Kripparian's stream. Here is what he and his "nolife team" does.
Inferno, The spire (act IV)
1. Witch Doctor Solo's the elite that spawns every time down to 2~3%
2. WD says join my game!
3. 3 people join with MF gear on
4. Barbarian shouts for the extra loot thing
5. Kill the elite
6. Take loots, leave game, rinse and repeat

Lastnight on HC Nightmare I kited Molten/Jailer/Extra HP mobs all the way from the Act 1 Graveyard to NewTristram. The NPC's engaged. Many of them died. It was beautiful.

Nice! It's crazy that they chase you that far. Hope you got some good gear for that one

I've been farming the 2nd last quest > the butcher in inferno act 1 because i went to act 2 and i couldnt even kill the first champion pack (i'm a monk).
people are not going to share their best 'secret spot to farm'... i have my own one too
but generally i think stacked valor in inferno is a good and legit way to go about it. when you kill a boss with 5-stacks they often drop around 3 rares and 7 blues easily.
still hate the fact that partying doesn't increase drop rates and quality though. it's so much harder to kill mobs in a party in D3.
