Hello readers ,
i'm new to this sc2 , and i would like to ask what is the pro and con of each races , and what should i have to pick the race ?
E.g. Maybe like if pick Protoss , need to have decent mouse accuracy , good micro , etc.
What about the other race ? I wish to know how the upper league players give me answers about how they pick their race , so that i can pick mine without regret.
Play a bunch of games as each race and see which one you prefer. Find out which one you like playing as more and then stick with them. All the races have their pros and cons, but until you try them you won't know which suits you better.
Well we can give you lots of info, but really the only thing to do is try them for yourself! I spent about 2 months playing each race before I decided to stick with zerg. There are things I like about each race, but the larva mechanic for Zerg is what made me stay with them. Something is just so satisfying about making 60 drones super quick, then being able to afford a nearly endless supply of roaches.
You won't be able to just say "terran" and be able to stick with that, just realise you need to try them all and it DOES NOT MATTER what your ladder rank is. Have fun with the game!
Hmmm well I play Protoss so I am naturally attuned to liking them. I beleieve that protoss are the easiest race to understand and we probably have the most hardy units in the game but also a flaws like really expensive units so you have to keep them alive.. they probably require the lowest avearge APM ad have the coolest abilities like Psi Storm..and force field so requires very good micro to keep them balanced so i would suggest protoss.
However Zerg requires probably the fastest APM because you have to multitask like injects creep spread and good micro with your units.. however they have cheeper units and remax their army a lot faster. and they can expand faster and easier so this is the race if you always want to play big Macro style games ( Big armies against big armies)
Lastely Terran my least fav but are still really cool to use. Terran are probably the most versatile race but they have lots of cool abilities like scan (see anywhere on the map) and they can fly their buildings around and also they are the only race that can repair buildings. . however I think Terran lack the killing power of other races and they require you to do a lot of harrasment.. like sending drop ships full of units and cloaked banshes to attack the enemy. and they generally have slowly push their tanks up the map so they are slower on the killing blow but really versatile at harrasment.
in Summary:
Protoss : big army maul the opponent, very costly units
Zerg: Max army faster swarm the opponent, weaker units
Terran; good harrasment, lack fast killing blow unless you get thors.
as far as accuracy with mouse clocks ets.. to play at master and Gm levels they all require you to be as fast and as accurate as the others and all races are pretty balanced it just depends on the playing style you like.
I'd recommend playing each of the three races for yourself and then deciding which you enjoy playing the most, there are pros and cons to each of the races in a wide array of settings; and the only way to actually work out which race you want to play - is to just play around with all of them ^-^
For the sake of not inciting balance discussions, I think I'm not going to point out pros and cons of each race. These I feel, should be left to be found out on your own. If you want pick a race, I suggest trying each one out own your own.
They each have different play-styles, find out which one suits you the best. If you really can't decide, just play random and decide at a later time when you've familiarized yourself more with each race.
It means that you only have to learn 9 matchups instead of 3, you get to learn how to defend against every cheese under the sun in every variation, and everyone assumes you are always going to cheese. Gotta love the WTFs when they scout your base and see a normal macro build.
As people have already stated just play a bunch of games with each race. If you are afraid of losing ladder points just do some Custom ones verse the AI Watch heaps of replays and streams, get a good idea of what each race can do and then find out which can suit you. Weather you want a macro race or a micro race or just am all round race.
I'd disagree with some people in this thread. There are no micro and macro races. All races require good macro and micro. Also, most people here refer to current metagame to claim the "style" of each race. Yes, most terrans are harassy now, and most zerg are macro, and most protoss do deathballs. Doesn't mean you can't play agressive protoss or zerg, or do fast 3rd as terran.
What really differs is the ways to get a desired result. The way you defend early pressure with zerg is much different from protoss. Either you rely on scouting to make efficient use of larva, or you rely on forcefields and sim city to make unpassable walls. The way you manage expansions is different in each matchup. ZvP - you almost freely shit expansions all over the map, while keeping map control. ZvT - you tremble every time you hear "AHH YEAH, THAT'S THE STUFF", and nervously check all your expos for drops. Map control for zerg is much different from map control for protoss. Either you manage a whole bunch of overlords and single lings, or you have sneaky invisible obs that require little to no management.
All these differences define the flavor of the race, and it's up to you to decide which best fits you. Btw, my gf said construction of zerg buildings looks as if someone is having an orgy inside. And that overlords have disgusting tongues. That's the kind of things that define what race you play, I guess
I like four things about protoss:
-The solid, temple-like feel of the base. Everything resembles of strength and high morale. Soundtracks are epic, with choir and drums and stuff. Reminds me of mage towers, with all the pathos, advancement and intelligence
-One unit makes a difference. I'm a former wc3 player, and I can't stand losing units. Makes a part of me die with each "mineral sink" zealot death. I like when one good voidray, DT, colossus, HT or mothership can turn the tide of battle.
-I like my econ untouched. I like my opponent to sit at his base in fear of major push, and not even thinking about harassing me. Or if he does, how a handful of blinkstalkers, cannons and a good obs make them cry rivers.
-I like the tech paths, and how each one offers unique tools to handle same situations. Obs for banshees? Phoenix for banshees? Or feedback? I want ALL of them, but have to chose one. Do I get high-range colossi to burn 'em stupid marines? Or do I get mind-breaking HT to fry them with a wave of hands? Or a sneaky DT to annoy the shit out of SCV's. Choices seem so well-defined and cool. And it gives every game a feeling of uniqueness.

It all comes down on how you wanna play. As a Silver player (and a scrub :P) I can't say much but here's the Pros and how I feel about each race as I played them all before picking .
: Awesome and devastating abilities and units. Mass Marine-Marauder? Melt under the fire of a couple of Collosus or die in a psionic storm. Tanks? Immortals will tank it. Protoss are unique as you can chrono boost tech or units and warp in anywhere as long as there's a pylon or a warp prism. Harassment? Pfft. Phoenix lift and blast away workers, Dark Templars punish your opponent for the lack of detection and warp prisms act as mobile pylons allowing you warp right in their base. Not interested? Then field the Mothership and mass recall your army right into your opponents base and wreck everything.
: Overwhelming. Once you have your expansions running, a really strong force is needed to crush you. Map control no longer is a problem if you have excellent creep spread and overlord placement. Harassment comes in many forms. From your Mutalisk flyers to your sneaky Infestor squads to Baneling bomb runs. The sound of a nydus worm will send your opponent into a panicked frenzy to quickly kill it. Lost your entire army? Not a problem as your larva are ready to morph into more units and overwhelm anything in a moments notice.
: Harassment and turtle central. You have the rocket-enabled Reaper to the fast and deadly Hellion to the sneaky Banshee. Drop play will be the bane of your opponents. Unable to fight in a straight up fight? Put up some bunkers, raise the depots, position your tanks and let the fight come to you. See a particular tech path? Switch tech from mech to air to infantry and back. Blow your opponent to bits with the powerful Yamato Cannon of the Battlecruiser. Not enough? Terran is the only race that has a WMD.
Overall: Each race is unique. I picked because it is versatile and allows me to be defensive AND offensive all at once.
Don't worry about the macro and the micro of each race. Once you know what you're gonna play as, the mechanics will soon be second nature to you. Hope to see you part of the Dominion

I love zerg for a lot of reasons. It is a bit more complicated with when to build workers because you need to build army with the same larvae, but I find it easier to manage than building from every building constantly and trying to have just the right number of barracks. Remaxing fast is fun too, swapping an army vs a protoss deathball and then remaxing instantly while he can build 10 or so gateway units only in the same time is just awesome. Banelings are AWESOME, nothing like watching your terran opponents bio army melt away in seconds. Infestors are AWESOME, I played a guy with mass void rays and mothership, neural parasite the mothership and use vortex on the void rays, then when they return you can fungal the whole lot of them to death! XD Oh and broodlords are AWESOME too, so frustrating for your opponent to deal with because of the long range and the fast that their units keep wanting to attack the broodlings.
You have bear certain things if you play certain races.
Terran: Bear protoss/zerg complain that you are OPed because your opponents plain suck and cant beat you
Zerg: Bear humilation from dying from ANYTHING
Protoss: Bear death under 1/1/1
The best thing to do is play games with each race. I started out playing random on ladder until I decided I didn't like Zerg, then played Terran for a season and finally have settled with Protoss for now. Just try them all out till you get a feel for which you like most.
