Okay, I just wrote up this thread and decided to start over before posting it up. I dont feel like posting up what I have researched so far, but I have looked at mostly stuff from Razer and Steelseries, and I feel like there could be more out there than what I've found. Im looking for stuff with high functionality and life expectancy, how it looks isn't as important, but surely would be a factor. Dont expect me to be staring at a well designed backlit keyboard with five different colours and rotating disco balls while playing starcraft 2. Yes, I want it aimed towards working for SC2. :P
So, although this will be a bit general and different among most people, reply with recommended:
Mouse?
Mousepad?
Keyboard?
Headset?
This could also work as a list your gaming gear thread if you want it to be. Although that might have already been done, lol.
Please also note that for the headset, I dont see sound as that important, but the microphone I want to be good. I've been stalling time to get a good headset with a good mic for eventual casting, but from what I've seen, the sound quality, mic quality and price all increase the better the headset is. Basically, I dont want a 250 dollar surround sound headset just so I can have a good microphone, if possible.
I've had a look at the SteelSeries SCII range lately and it looks alright, but to be honest I don't actually like the look of any of the gear; especially the head-set. But to each their own.
Anyhow, this is my current set-up:
Keyboard: Logitech G110
A solid keyboard. I've used a few over my gaming years and have been most happy with this one. The keys have great spacing! Each press is a lot more distinct; which for me removes the chance of potentially mashing keys while trying to play fast. I can't make a single complaint re: this keyboard and I've been using it for close to a year.
Oh, and just if you're interested; it's got fully-customizable G1-12 keys; colours, a USB port as well as a headphone/microphone port - now that's awesome!
Mouse: Logitech G500
A great mouse, it's medium in size which works well for me as I've got pretty big hands. Very smooth & responsive mouse and overall very comfortable. Comes with some cool settings as well as the ability to add and remove weights (which come with it) in order to have the mouse at the correct weight for your own preference. It's selling for $85AUD at PC Case Gear, but keep in mind I don't have that ugly colour that's on that website, mines has a silver tone, haha.
Mouse-Pad: SteelSeries 4HD A mouse is only as good as the mouse-pad beneath it. You can't go past SteelSeries for mouse-pads; well some will say Razer offer some decent ones but I've tried a lot, have been gaming for many years and have tried even the most crazy, popular "ideas" of using the base of a Coles/Safeway re-usable bag (don't know it till you try it) back in the day. It's a large size so you don't need to worry about your mouse sliding off while gaming; very smooth surface; has a nice grip on the bottom so it doesn't slide around the desk and allows the mouse to glide across it with literally the push of a finger.
Can't recommend it enough, IIRC it's ~$70AUD.
Head-Set: SteelSeries Siberia V2 Over all my gaming years; head-sets have come and gone through all my set-ups; from Logitech head-sets to Sennheiser and nothing has come close to my love & appreciation for the Siberia V2s. It also comes with an awesome retractable microphone which has awesome voice quality. It's comfortable as anything, even after 14hrs+. It'll set you back ~$150AUD. Highly recommended!
Here's a quick picture of my current set-up...
Don't mind the PC tower being in the way; I've had to play around with my system lately so I've had it there just for the sake of a 6'4" guy having to constantly go up and down into the system.
That is such a sweet setup mike, love the clean look of your room and the blizzard posters! what a true fan of the game!
This is my setup not too long ago
As for my gaming gear im using some razer mouse/pad freebies i was given for playing in the singapore sc2 showmatch launch which works just fine for me as well as the steelseries headphones which i absoutely love. The only thing i boguht was the filco mechanical keyboard which fruit dealer uses and i adore and its probably my most expensive gaming peripheral i bought at $150 AUD
Mouse - Razer Deathadder 8/10 : very standard.
Mouse Pad - Steel Seiries SC2 Pad : 10/10 : i cant see it getting better than that.
Keyboard - Filco Majestouch Cherry Brown : 9/10 : Love this keyboard and its the highlight of my setup. worth every penny
Headset - I use my Studio Monitor Speakers
I've heard the abyssus is like moving air, not like moving a mouse. Also, its an ambidextrous mouse, which can give less comfort than right/left handed gaming mice.
Isnt the control edition of the goliathus preferred? Tbh, that probably doesn't matter THAT much.
The razer marauder? The SC2 APM lighting one? Actually, does the APM lighting ACTUALLY help at all? I'd prefer having a korean voice screaming at me through my headphones whenever my APM falls low, lol.
The carcharias sounds like the best hardware listed, Im probably not able to judge that. :P

Thanks dude! ! I went a little crazy with my current set-up; worked my ass off for a while so I could set it up just the way I wanted; even went to the extent of buying a new desk, haha!

If you're seriously keen on the Razer SCII gear; pick up this months PC Power Play magazine; there's a review on all the gear (Spoiler: the overall score/review was average).
... why would you spend $70 on a mousepad? I bought mine for $1.20...
My sons PC cost me less than what you guys spend on your accessories. Do you really think it makes a difference which mouse, keyboard, mousepad, ect. you are using?

I do like the desk... wish I could find one like that here in Jakarta...
Well, looking at the suggestions, Im probably gonna buy:
Mouse: Razer Imperator OR Deathadder (Probably imperator though)
Keyboard: Steelseries 7G
Mousepad: Razer Goliathus
Headset: Steelseries Siberia v2
For RTS you would want a light mouse. I recommend Razer abyssus instead of imperator or deathadder which imo are for either first person shooters or mmorpg.
