Thanks to everyone for coming, it was an absolute blast. I have to say, for me personally, the Swiss style was much more enjoyable than any format I've ever run. It was a much more relaxed, structured atmosphere. I'm very keen to get everyone's feedback now that they've had a taste of it.
Huge thanks goes out to rezyn8 for helping me out on the day! It was nice meeting you.
Another big thanks to Techtron/GeZZa/TargA/whichever one of you bought me lunch... you guys take such good care of me!
Mega thanks to inFeZa for supplying me with an awesome goody bag of USA Foods - Tara's loving the peanut butter M&M's right now!
Thanks to Callum, Logan and the rest of the iBisQ guys for being as accommodating as possible! They even went out of their way to set up an MLG stream on the plasma TV for us all day long!
And thanks to Eddie for a CRAZY series which ended with a 45 minute base trade on Calm Before the Storm.
It was nice to meet some fresh faces, especially the ACL regulars! You guys were great, I look forward to seeing you guys at more events in the future!
Definitely one of the most enjoyable events to date. Much love.
EDIT: And one more thanks to all the people who clapped and cheered for me after an epic 1.5 hour series lol.
Haven't experienced that since WarCraft 3!

Was a blast! Loved it! HUGE ~ shoutout to dox and all the guys who made it possible
Also was there another base trade scenario on CBTS? Kez and i had an insane game - DO NOT READ IF YOUR GONNA WATCH THIS EPIC CAST THAT I WANT SOMEONE TO DO.
where we were down to our last few buildings, i had only 6 probes bound to die and recalled them twice with the mother ship only to build a last second pylon while i killed his last building. EPIC.
Really fun day . I swear to god I'm going to train 3 hours a day on force field madness so i stop losing to ling all-ins.....
My one small suggestion for the format (which didn't end up effecting me at all luckily) is the map format. playing bo3 loser picks w/ no vetoes can be really really bad for a player if he gets a bad first map, because its forcing him to try to win on the 2 worst maps of the large map pool for his race. I think either all 3 maps being selected by the tournament for each series, or a loser picks w/ vetos style works out (generally) more fair, obviously there'll still be situations where you might get 2, or god even 3 bad maps for your race in a bo3 with full randomization, but it's at least rarer than getting 1 bad map with the system we used yesterday.
Hopefully that all made sense and didn't just come off rambling ;o.
I specifically avoided using veto's to try and save time. For comparison, we spent more than 2 hours total at WCG Australia on veto's alone, and that was only with 12 players!
But I do agree that veto's make for a much fairer system and I'll be looking to include it in future ACL events.
Yeah.. .lol didn't realise there wasn't Veto's - and we did it in Brisbane... but it was a very relaxed set up.. and the rounds usually finished pretty quickly (albeit 90% of the games were ZvZ!!)
Saturday was great fun. Think the Swiss format worked quite well for the majority, and definitely worth trying again at another event.
Won the 3 series i should have, lost a 50/50 with Dox, and lost 2 series against favoured opponents (including TargA who dominated all day 6-0!)
My highlight was definitely the series v Dox. Strange, unorthodox play, but G1 + G3 were really close, and went for ages. Made for crazy games. G1 i managed to win in 40m, despite not building any Collosi or HT, against everything Dox threw at me, Broods, Ultras, Nydus. G3 Base Trade! Dox sneaking a base, took me ages to get to, threw up what looked like 20+ spines, and couldn't kill it against the Muta pressure Went for 45m. Long series. GG's.
Also nice to meet new people, put names to faces, and see some players from past events.
That game 1 on Shattered was SO silly. Never in my life have I managed to sink 13k minerals into Ultras and Broods, then lose them all in like 2 minutes hahahaha.
The format worked well - it works MUCH better then a standard double elimination tournament when there is a significant skill distribution between attendants. I agree with pinder that the mappool system needs to include vetoes, even though I was the beneficiary of our series. Also the map should state which version of maps to use, as there was a bit of confusion regarding belshir beach and antiga (cross or any position).
Highlights include - Dox displaying stubborness not since seen since crazymoving, going straight up muta against (with a healthy side of sunkens to boot) a multibase protoss. My second game vs Targa on metalopolis was a really fun game. Propbetting against nestea is also +ev. Infeza's clutch recall against kez was also hilariously awesome.
During the intro I was actually supposed to say "MLG versions or ladder versions for all maps are fine (since the only difference is the depot), but use the GSL version of Antiga for Crossmap" - I wasn't aware that there were still outdated editions of Bel'Shir on SEA until my game against Nuik - apologies for that!
Was a good day, I'm not sure how I feel about the format, I think it'd be great for a more fun/entertaining comp with a wide skill variety of players, but for deciding spots for qualifiers it can be a bit weird, I mean, especially since there was like 4 of us on the same score, maybe itd be a good method of deciding the top 4 or 8 and then they go into finals or something I dunno.
That clutch recall is giving me nightmares not gonna lie. Also feel quite sorry for pinder gettin speedling all inned by the techtron/gezza family tag team ahaha, cant wait till the next melb event!
