To promote and develop local SEA
playing,commentating and administrating
talent through providing a regular and
rewarding competitive experience.
As we saw from 2012, the wT Weekly competition continued to expand and develop
as the year went on. A major difference between 2012 and 2013 will be the structure.
Best of 3s will now begin from Round of 16 instead of Round of 8 and as a result the
competition will begin an hour earlier at 7PM AEDT/AEST (pending Daylight Saving).
The prize pool will decrease from $40 for 1st place to $20 in light of a new Major
event to occur every 5th week. More information on that later.
The first wT Weekly will be January 7th 2012
Another exciting initiative is the implementation of an official points based system for seeding and clarity on
who is the best of wT Weekly. Players will receive points increasing in value as they reach further into the
bracket. Players who make it to round of 16 and better will receive points, giving them the upper hand in
future events through favourable seeding. For wT Major's, the points will be doubled. More information below.
It is with great pleasure we announce a tournament partnership with Eddie and the team from Masters Cup.
SEA Power Ranking will provide a SEA wide ladder system used for seeding in major events.
With the intention to expand eventually to a point where it represents who is the best right now in SEA
across a variety of online competitions, being teamed with the Masters Cup will provide a great opportunity.
With the partnership with the SEA Power Ranking system, we will be using it exclusively for seeding.
For Weeklies with less than or equal to 64 signups: Top 16 will be seeded.
For Weeklies with greater than 64 signups: Top 32 will be seeded.
For Majors regardless of signups: Top 32 will be seeded.
Seeding will prioritise from SEA Power Rankings and should any remaining seeded positions still be
unaccounted for, the internal wT Weekly points ladder will fill remaining slots.
All remaining player slots will be placed at random.
E.G in a 64 player wT Weekly bracket the top 16 will be seeded. Looking at the SEA Power Rankings
only 10 players from that have signed up. The remaining 6 seeded slots will be filled from
the wT Weekly points ladder.
For any given week there will be the following points breakdown.
1st
2nd
3rd
4th
5th-8th
9th-16th
17th-32nd
SEA Power Points will be allocated to the top 4 of Weeklies and top 8 of Majors.
wT Internal Points will be allocated to the top 32 for both Weeklies and Majors.
wT Majors will provide double points.
Each week the team will evaluate any feedback provided by players and the wider
community around the map pool and any requests for changes. With HotS around the
corner, there will likely be a high rotation of maps on official tournaments and we will
do our best to create a map pool which best suits the playing market.
One of the reasons we feel wT Weekly was so successful was the consistent
streaming of the event each week. This provided an opportunity for the community to
gain access to seeing the best of SEA live and also an opportunity for players
themselves to showcase their talent to a larger audience.
2012 saw myself commentate the majority of the Weeklies as the dedicated streamer.
There is no doubt having the regular structure of higher tiered play to commentate
each week played a large role in my development as a commentator as the year
progressed. Seeing this, I would like to extend the opportunity to the wider community
to have a piece of the pie as well. I will be stepping down as official commentator for
each week and take on a Casting Administrator role. Based on a rotation system it will
be designed to allow aspiring commentators be they known or not to have a chance
at commentating a high tier SEA event to gain valuable exposure and practice. Stream
production overlays and backdrops will be provided where appropriate. If you will be interested in
commentating the wT Weekly in 2013, PM me and we can arrange a time to have you on board!
Arguably the most exciting announcement of 2013, every 5th week will see a wT
Major tournament working off the success of wT Weekly #42 (the final weekly of
2012). Every 5th week the Weekly will supercharge increasing at least 5 fold in prize
money to $100 minimum and will be featured on Team Liquid and advertised
internationally. With international interest already from majOr who we saw take out
the final weekly of 2012, it is sure to be a competition worth tuning in for. The
bracket system will remain the same, with best of 3s starting from Round of 16 and a
similar start time to the weeklies. Points accumulated from previous weekly results will
come into effect and give a distinct starting advantage to regular players. I will be the
dedicated commentator for these events and will be sourcing co-casters throughout
the year.
The first wT Major will be January 21st 2012
2013 the team will be looking at expanding and providing a flawless and efficient
tournament experience for all involved. Weeklies will provide opportunity for aspiring
administrators to gain valuable training in a live tournament environment, while the wT
Majors will provide an opportunity for those who have showcased their talent to
administrate on an international online tournament. Communication will remain a top
priority to ensure any questions are answered quickly and results are responded to in
an efficient manner.
With Heart of the Swarm just around the corner, wT Weeklies and Majors will switch
straight away to the expansion upon release. Although this may limit the availability of
some players to participate we feel it is most appropriate to follow suit to major
companies world-wide and showcase the new expansion as soon as possible.
From a SEA Power Ranks + Masters Cup perspective, it's great to see these events working together. A step towards a unified online tournament ranking + rewards system. Something extra for players to aim for, and easier work for admins and online seeding.
It's great to have a solid and stable tournament for the SEA scene with awesome casting and admining like wT! Good job guys, expecting greater things next year
Can't wait to get stuck into it tonight, great to know there's opportunities for those looking to participate in tournament admin and commentating! I'll have to stick around for more of these things!
