I was watching your replays and noticed that you hardly ever went 13 gate. Most of the time you seemed to go 11 gate - scout. Looking later on in the game, it seems like your core and 2nd pylon seem to go down at a normal time (i think), which is why i was wondering why you do this? I'm sure there is a reason, otherwise you wouldn't do it!
i 10 gate vs protoss and terran which gets u an earlier core than 12/13/14 gate which allows you to get fast stalkers for map control/scouting cos i'm way more comfortable playing with map control/more information in those match ups than without it. (and fwiw, this definitely isn't "better" than any other way of playing the matchup, its just the way im most comfortable with, but can be kinda apm demanding early on, so i wouldn't suggest it for slower players as you're far more likely to hurt yourself by trying to control the map early than you are to help yourself/hurt your opponent.)
against zerg i'll 12/14 gate tho, only vs Z games you'll see me 10 gate are when the person was actually random.
the other obvious bonus is that having an earlier gate makes stopping early aggression or cheese much easier (1 marine 2 marauder 1 reaper, proxy gates, proxy rax, etc), whilst the downfall is obviously you hurt yourself slightly economically by cutting probes and using chrono boost on stalkers early.
Thanks for that speedy reply - answers my question perfectly. Yeah, my apm are dire, so i don't think adding any more stress onto myself right now will do me any good, but it is something I can aim towards as other things stabilise.
Another question: Against zerg, when you expand with the pylon at the base of the ramp and then go nexus - forge - cannon, i noticed a little gap between the pylon and the ramp. Its hard to tell, but is the forge touching the nexus? is this design to make the only entrance that teeny gap between the ramp and the pylon, or maybe the forge isnt touching the nexus after all?
