Hey guys, I'm Shaft, and I'm a caster with the Clan EAT Casting Crew. We've been working over the last few weeks to bring to you a series of videos on unit control. For a lot of players, unit control can become overwhelming. Macro, on top of micro, becomes difficult, so it's very important to be using the most effective means possible utilizing the fewest clicks. This will allow you to cover many more actions in an allotted time.
Our first episode covers Basic Unit Control. This video will begin on a basic, fundamental level, and then begin combining different principles covered for some really awesome effects. Some of the subjects you can expect to enjoy:
- Different types of rallying
- Splitting your army
- Big boxing versus small boxing
- Binding control groups and using them effectively
- Adding and subtracting small numbers of units to existing control groups
This video was intended for Zergs, and does include Zerg-specific ideas (e.g., egg rallies) but is still a viable learning tool for other races, as well!
Our second episode is on advanced unit control, and this episode displays a lot of higher-level concepts within Starcraft. Most of the things in this video seem small, but are also the things that most commonly cause people to get overwhelmed or frustrated with the game. We will show you how to be aware of the map, respond to what you see effectively, so you can easily move on to other tasks.
- Patrol Splitting
- Mini-Map Awareness & Usage
- Flanking
- Pincer Attacks
- Surrounding the enemy army
- Dropping
And finally, our third video will be showcasing Spellcaster control. This video is currently in the works, and I wanted to ask for some community feedback on what people feel like this kind of video should cover. Should we spent a majority of the video teaching how to keep the casters alive, how to do the most damage, finesse-based tactics, zoning concepts, et cetera? Please reply!
