Hello. I am SlayerS_Jessica.
I would like to first say that it's such a pity for SlayerS and Lim Yohwan to have had bad words directed at them just because of certain material that Mr Haeun_Cielu decided to personally post on TL.
That is why I wanted to tell you the exact context for the things that Haeun_Cielu decided to post without even saying what happened before and after them.
Firstly, as you are all aware, the incident's origin is the appearance of the player SlayerS_Eve.
Many people are brushing her off as insignificant because she is in the Gold League.
(She is Diamond)
Please, think for a minute.
It has been less than a month since Eve joined the team. She was not selected through the pro-gamer casting system, but she is someone I selected for the team to help start having female competitors in Starcraft 2, after seeing that she had sufficient potential.
That potential is shown in the fact that she was the champion of the Female League.
You might brush off the Female League as being insignificant because the players are Silvers and Golds
but in reality, it is no mean feat for a female to reach Master level while laddering against males.
It is difficult for the average male player, too.
This is like the first steps being taken by a toddler, so it's inevitable that the starting level is low.
But if she trains and receives training, I believe that she will achieve the match ability to at least give you all entertaining matches to watch.
That is why I selected her.
She was not inducted so that she would achieve incredible feats in individual leagues like the GSL.
She is here to make the game more entertaining and to show that unlike in Starcraft 1, female players can easily do well in Starcraft 2.
If you condemn her to be unworthy for not becoming a Master in under a month, how would female players anywhere ever even attempt to make it in Starcraft?
The team SlayerS is a professional team.
I believe she should be called a pro-gamer as long as she is a member of the team, because despite her skill level being that of an amateur, it would not be right for a team member to differentiate each other as "the amateur" or "the professional".
I hope that you will be able to think of her more generously and watch over her quietly so that she may be able to enjoy playing Starcraft 2.
Haeun_Cielu used twitter to put together our my tweets and those of commentator Ahn Junyoung (out of context) to imply that the commentator had criticised my decision to show Eve during GSL.
He was manipulative, driving the mob mentality for his own benefit, and used banmal [informal speech used to social equals and inferiors, never used for someone older than oneself] to ridicule me for "not being able to speak English". I thought that as an adult, I should tell a high-school girl to remember his manners, which he then called it a "keyboard battle" and then used irritating language saying things like I "had fled twitter".
Having stumbled across this, I warned him in advance, in case he made the mistake of going too far, that current Korean laws on cybercrime allow punishment for those that circulate rumors about another person, whether the rumor is true or not.
rS, and is trying to spread his story everywhere.
I have never told this person that I would sue him.
Perhaps he thinks he is being sued because he saw his tweet on a page at the top of the pile of documents prepared in relation to the legal action.
Actually, legal procedure requires that any submitted evidence must include all surrounding events or contributing incidents occurring at the time, which is why all materials must be submitted.
Haeun_Cielu, that top page you saw was the first page of results given at the time when "김가연" was searched on twitter.
If he kept tweeting it, then of course wouldn't it be inevitable that he would keep coming up on the first page?
The point is that it was just material that I had to submit as part of evidence for the surrounding environment at the time for legal action. And having seen this, Haeun_Cielu, like how a thief feels when cornered, claimed that I was suing him and that all he did was to criticize SlayerS.
And he must have believed that it was better to spread this on TL instead of trying to do it in Korea.
(He says that someone on TL independently posted his claims. I find this hard to believe.)
And with TL unaware of his actual situation or what he had actually done, he managed to create a critical atmosphere that called all of it an overreaction.
Thanks to him, I am receiving hatemail from foreigners on my twitter, too.
This saddens me.
In Korea, there are very dark consequences due to our online culture.
Many celebrities are persecuted with hateful words without reason and there are incidents such as the false controversy over Tablo's educational record at Stanford.
Because of all this, there are so many celebrities that fall victim to depression and some that choose to take their own lives.
Perhaps, due to cultural differences, it may not feel so real but for Korean society, it is such a big problem.
It is impossible to know what it feels to be persecuted online until you have been a victim.
This case is a sexual crime.
They photoshopped a young female onto a pornography actress.
They humiliated her.
They wrote profanities and sexist remarks non-stop...
There are things that they are doing that you couldn't even imagine.
I am the manager of SlayerS.
I must protect our players.
I was able to ignore hateful messages during all this time that I have been a celebrity.
After all, all it took was just me to endure it and swallow the insults.
But Eve is different.
With Eve, her parents and even those who care about her have been hurt.
The only thing she has ever done, is to have been seen on television as a member of SlayerS.
She has never done something that affected society. She has never harmed anyone either.
No longer shall I stand on the sidelines and watch the bloodless murder committed by those sending messages of hate through a messageboard that, through the misguided Korean Internet culture secures them some anonymity.
To those that call this an overreaction, I ask one question.
If someone in your family was the victim of cyberbullying, would you tell them to stop overreacting?
Persistent online bullies are not "users of the internet" but "serious cyber criminals that call for justice".
DC Inside is a place that is place where such schizophrenic hate messengers reside online.
Lim Yohwan is a man who has always walked together with e-Sports in Korea.
His ability may not be at the level it was at his prime, but he is still full of passion
and for the sake of the fans that still cheer for him, he refuses to put down his mouse.
That passion alone has led him to give up all of the joys of life to do nothing but play the game to make up for the shortfall in his ability.
But he is hurt so many times every day by the bullies that abuse him like a punchbag, refusing him the courtesy that he deserves as a pioneer, instead calling him a has-been, a reject, telling him to retire and the like.
The thing that I had always been thankful for from TL was that even if his performances were lacking, you were always there with us to cheer him on together.
Because you became the force from which he could take strength.
But I am hurt that even some among you would attack us without the full evidence.
This lawsuit will progress as planned.
Whenever they are sued, Korean cyberbullies always come to the police station in tears and beg for forgiveness.
But that is always the limit to what they do.
They never stop their attacks.
That is why I accept that they are criminal and want them to receive their punishment as criminals.
You don't have to hit someone for it to be assault.
These people are a menace that launch assaults against people in cyberspace and even commit murder.
Haeun_Cielu deleted the tweets that he had sent me saying that he had jumped to a false conclusion and his tweets of apology.
I, too, have apologized for losing my temper and we have reconciled.
I have now shown to you everything that has been on my mind with sincere honesty.
If you still wish to call it an overreaction,
There is nothing more that I can say you.
I am grateful to those who read this long message.
I will take the sluggish performance of SlayerS as being the result of my own shortcomings as a manager, and will try to work even harder.
Thank you. - Jessica -
Starcraht2 Progame Team SlayerS
i just read this on TL and im a bit so-so about the whole issue i mean Eve is clearly not up to par in terms of skill, but it is a good way to get girls into gaming, but she is only diamond...
and also all the hate is just people on the internet being people on the internet, and im actually glad that shes doing that to the trolls
I'll never get the issue with women not present in some social layers. Women are very different, they think and feel differently, and no surprise they don't succeed in some traditionally male areas. SlayerS made it even worse, and approached the project with 0 prior experience and knowledge of what they are doing. Promotion was done so unprofessionally, makes me feel so bad for Eve.
If girls could, they'd already had done it. They are mostly not interested. And if they are, to a much lesser extend than boys. Thank god (gods, aliens, w/e yall believe in) we don't live in a homogeneous society. It is a miracle to have such warm-hearted, tender, gracious, caring and deep-feeling females next to us, it makes the world so much more diverse and beautiful.
But face it, there is little room for women in intellectually competitive scenes. Men are built for this kind of stress, women aren't. There are exceptions, and we see brilliant females in science, politics and business. I personally won't ever have the balls to take a firm stand in intellectual competition against say, Angela Merkel, or Svetlana Luzhkova. Women in male areas have to possess a unique and critical advantage, or they fail. Highlight intellectually, because physical performance is an entirely different issue. Women's bodies are better at a lot of things than men's (more flexible, lighter muscle, different rate of energy consumption).
Eve didn't look like she had any advantage over other male sc2 players, as women high-flyers in other areas do (education, superior network, advanced communication skills, luck ffs). If the advantage is deep in her, it's fine, but then it is impossible to play the card before it's dealt. Get her on board, train, make sure she is ready, then announce.
SlayerS_Jessica took a bad, miscalculated and unweighted risk. To make things worse, it was based around and affected an entire separate person. It's like taking a generally untalented singer and throw her out on the scene without the support of heavy PR and money for laugh and humiliation. This kind of stress and feelings breaks lives, you know. People go down from far simplier and localized things, especially young girls.
I hope this will be a lesson for all "managers" out there. When things get as big as they are with pro sc2 scene, it's a jungle and a harsh business, and not everyone can survive. PR and managing professionals of other entertainment segments are very experienced, networked and connected people, who have sense and knowledge in what they are doing. Sc2 managers don't seem to have the skills. Heck, they probably don't have even a complete bachelor's degree in the fields they work in.
That was hilarious Next_rim. I have to read that to my wife to show her that I'm not that macho finally.

That's why you find less of them in high level. NOT because they are intellectually inferior.

Er, well, true in general but not all the time unfortunately, especially after you marry them.
You forgot, they're soft, they cook well and has even more usages that decency cannot allow to speak here.

You are so wrong ! Women can be as smart as men and have as much execution skill when they want to really commit to something. And they can have as much willpower as men. They will be raging less but still do the work needed when they have the motivation to.

They are not exception. I worked with many women in my live and the best managers I have ever met and formed were women, because they worked harder and have more "people sense" than men. The reason why we don't see them more at the head of companies and political scene is because they often commit herself more to children than men and because of general machismo of our societies.
I didn't really followed the Jessica's story, not really interested. I knew there were going to be negative reaction to the "positive discrimination" that Eve has benefited, but I was not interested in the details.
PS : Those BB code and smiley help pages are great thanks nirvAnA !
Edit : Argh, not the baneling ! I must post 5 posts quickly

Women are certainly not inferior, but due to their nature, they use their capabilities in most weird (in my eyes ) ways, and those directions are not commonly associated with the most efficient ways of goal-reaching in many plains of modern society. It's not worth discussing the amount of dedication it takes to keep up with fashion trends, and maintain the gorgeous looks. I'd take 90 hours of workload in office over 8 hours of high heels in office anytime.
In my 40-strong department, there are 4 unit heads, 3 are women (all 3 - no children, divorced). Department head is male, so is the entire board of directors. There just seems to be a particular level, that not all women can surpass. They can do equal or better jobs in middle management, but not tough enough for big projects. They are much more thorough and pay more attention to details, which makes them great supervisors. But they certainly lack recklessness and the "oh, w/e, let's just do it" approach of my risk-taking upper-level bosses.
Big weight female political figures have more of a male attitude. They are analysts, risk takers and planners. Combined with female charm and keen intuition, that makes them outstanding performers. But in my experience, those types are exceptions.

By all means do it ! There are lot of other advantages that surpasses their sometimes variable mood.
Congrats btw, I wish you both all the happiness possible.

Rofl... I hope you're trolling.
This action seems to have been taken unprofessionally, but if you want to get women into competitive gaming its a good way to do it. I guess most aspiring female progamers already have enough male idols, but surely this publicity will lead an increase in female players on a casual/recreational level.
And if this interest is sustained, the logical conclusion is...
