[Contest]Dear Blizzard - Ideas on How To Improve Growth in My Home Region
Dear Blizzard... Well I am just a Starcraft 2 player from Malaysia which is in SEA region of course... I've played on all 4 servers on Starcraft 2: HOTS, I got my copy of the game in 2011 which is Starcraft 2: WoL at that moment I was able to play on both SEA and US servers before we are able to play on all 4 servers together. To be honest, SEA server really lack of players compared to the other 3 servers... For an example, a match of 2v2 ladder took only about 30 secs to one minute in the US while on the SEA server it's about 1 to 2 minutes or more, and most of my matchups are players from Australia... I am not saying it's bad or anything it's just that I want to have more players from my country as well as my neighbouring countries... why is SEA servers lack of players??? I do have 2 ideas on how can we improve growth in my region...
1) Organize more local tournaments for the SEA server. Online tournaments are not so bad but if we can organize more local tournament, people can get to know more about Starcraft 2 as well as the growth of eSports! As people walk by and watch us competing against each other it stir up the hearts of new players and thus growth on our region.
2) Organize Barcraft in multiple places, the one I know about is during WCS Season 1 Finals... after that there are not any Barcraft organized. I wish Blizzard Entertainment or Starcraft 2 SEA community would organize Barcraft in multiple places so all of the players could meet and watch the tournaments live together. Socialize is one of the important facts on how to grow a community... as more and more players gather together the community grows stonger and larger.
Well these 2 are my ideas on how to improve growth in my region... maybe you guys could share your ideas because together we achieve more on improving the game as well as the community. eSports has been growing rapidly from time to time but it cannot grow by itself... It needs players or people like us to support it. Please do share your ideas on how to improve growth in your region as well... let us make eSports a bigger place for players to meet, enjoy and compete together!!!
My ID in Starcraft 2 is BreakingDawn.250, my race is Terran... anyone who like to play a few match with me can add me... Thx for your time on reading this... 1st timer on forum posting...
Due to not wanting to multiple postage below is my 2nd and 3rd post to Kumo and IronLung ^^ :
Kumo.... That's really a helpful advice... One thing I love about barcraft is players can gather around and watch the tournament together live... Chat with each other and enjoying the gameplay... It's really fun doing so...
Kumo... Barcraft is really a fun place we can go enjoy ourselves and IronLung... I DO AGREE WITH YOU!!!!! We seriously need a BIGGER SC2 scene in Malaysia... The last barcraft organized was at KL... and btw which state are you from???

I'm not from or in Malaysia, but one of the things in my country that really helped increase the SC2 community is player-organized events. A few people formed a group that basically gets in contact with pubs, etc, and organizes all the major Barcrafts, tournaments, and all within my city. So yeah, if you got together with some friends and tried to start organizing all that, it would really help.
One of the major things that put people off is disorganization... I mean, if a barcraft *isn't* organized, people will be discouraged from organizing it because they don't even know if it'll work out after all their effort. But if you and some friends work together to put one together, people will be more motivated to turn up because it's already all set up by some others, and they'll feel like there's more of a chance that it's actually successful than if they tried to set it up. :P

I'm from Selangor. Also if you're interested, there' s WCG Malaysia happening in November in KL. Gonna be pretty sweet!
One of the reasons why Starcraft can't expand well is because another game dominates the hearts of almost all young players today.
Games such as Dota and League of Legends.
League of Legends is basically free, Dota has been around here for a long time, and is free for as long as it has been.
They're just as fun as SC2, but since the factor of being free to play is a widely appraised deal to anyone who is saving (or basically, doesn't have) money.
It's sad to see Starcraft staying little, but even if you could convince an entire island size group of young people to play starcraft, they wouldn't because they need to pay and peer pressure of doing other games.
Also, Dota has been the leading game here in my country, you just cannot bypass it because it's been with young people since the day they visited an internet café.

PandaMarine... I totally understand you because my first game was also DOTA... I know players today tends to go for free games including SMITE... but the thing is to me SC2 is more challenging than DOTA, LOL and etc... well you can say I am more focused on playing SC2 rather than other games... it keeps me going
Just an FYI, MarineKing8661; most of sc2sea looks down on multiple posting. Might want to consider editing your original post to include content from the 2nd and 3rd, and deleting those two ^_^
With regards to improving the Starcraft 2 scene in your home region, in my opinion it's a matter of getting people into the e-sports of it, and getting them excited about watching. Get them watching a GSL or some similar tournament, meet up for live showings of tournaments with a couple of beers and enjoy it yourself. I guarantee that a few drinks among friends while watching a series goes a long way.

Thx flux for the advice... I've chnaged it... Well many young players from my country do support eSports (DOTA 2, LOL)... but when they heard of SC2 the first thing that popped up on their mind is wow that game is expensive and I rather play free games... well that is the current thinking for the young players in my country I suppose... and to get them watching GSL or WCS... We obviously need BARCRAFT!!! Cause it includes beers as well
Lemminks... If SC2 comics do come out I would lo9ve to have a copy as well... but currently they only hae lores only right???
