Behind the Username is an interview series where I ask some questions of regular players I meet in and around SC2SEA and our tournaments.
Today I have a chat with Jamie 'DynSL Ice' Beresford, manager of Dynasty eSports' SC2 branch.
---
To ease us into it: how long have you been playing Starcraft 2, and have you always played Protoss?
I started basically at the start of WoL but then had my PC blow up on me so had a 2 year gap and came back at the end of 2013. In WoL I played a bit of everything, but when I came back I couldn't pick a race now I feel comfortable with toss and have been playing as Protoss for 4 months now
How did you decide upon your username?
The name Ice comes from my cricket club, my nickname is Berry but they also call me Ice, apparently I'm cool and calm under pressure and have Ice running through my veins so I ended up sticking with ice after having many aliases (BigBoy, Orix, Berry and TuO) just to name a few lol
Describe your playstyle in ten words or less.
Macaroni and cheese
I'm scared to ask for clarification =p A lot of us, whether in tournaments or on ladder, have games which stick in our memory as being more fun or entertaining than others. Do you have a war story or favourite match you'd like to brag about?
Well there are plenty but one comes to mind, I recently played Fnatic Harstem in a custom game we were in a party with me JevyN and tSu Harstem wanted to play terran and i played toss and some how took the game off him IDC if he off raced still beat him :P
With all the games you've played, on ladder and in tournaments, who would you consider your greatest rival at the present time?
Cuddles or Chiddiru both shit stirrers haven't played either in a long time but revenge is needed
When I first spoke with you, it was soon after you formed Havoc Gaming (HvG) which was subsequently assimilated into Eternal eSports. You've since gone on to join Dynasty eSports as a team manager. Could you tell us a bit about how that came about?
About 3 months after HvG was formed, pSymOn who was assistant manager of HvG also played competitive CS:GO for Dynasty, He was in chat with Skitz about who could be a good manager and I was approached and happily took the role
I can imagine the role keeps you busy. What does the position entail? Can you give us any details?
Yeah it does that why I had to try find a way for HvG to either stay alive or merge. At the start was hectic trying to get players to join a new to the scene Org but slowly but sure established a core group and have built from there. Few things I do without going into too much detail are organise trainings, get players into tournies and such and try to bring new talent to the group and find ways for us to improve
You mentioned recently that the Perth Lan you and Skitz organised in Fragzone influenced the decision of Redflag Lanfest to reinstate Starcraft 2 as one of its events (albeit in the casual category this year). Can you tell us how that came to eventuate?
I can tell you how the LAN came about?
But I don't the decision making behind the RFLans admins
Apparently was the LAN
They announced 2 days after the LAn that sc2 would be in so yea
Ah, so a coincidence of timing then? I had got the impression that Dynasty might have approached Redflag. That being said, is there any plan for a concerted push to gather more WA SC2 players together to make the RFlan SC2 side of things a success?
Skitz knows the admins of RF so I cant answer the question from my end properly for the other question
And yes we want to grow not just SC2 but all esports across Aus taking one step at a time
While I understand that there are restrictions on the kind of information a manager can give about the organisation they are working for, can you give us any teasers for what Dynasty might be planning in the next 3 months?
We are in the midst of securing a high range sponsor and obviously kicking some Fray butt cant give much more I'll keep it hidden :P
I hope that works out for you guys Returning to Starcraft in general, is there a particular moment in your career which you consider particularly important or formative for who you are as a player and person now?
when I swapped to protoss pretty much changed my perspective of the game itself
For a bit of fun: if there was anyone in the world you could challenge to a Best of Five match, who would it be, and why?
$O$ because he's my Idol. I would love to see him destroy me ahaha so I could learn heaps (heart) sOs
Finally, feel free to self-promote and drop some links here if you want folks to follow you on the various social media/streaming sites
(Btw, the Dynasty eSports twitter hasn't been active in ages. Someone should get on that =D )
Yeah it was used by COD team
But we are looking into rebranding whole Twiiter scene
But that will come in time
Always a good move Thank you for spending some time with me, Ice, and I look forward to seeing the Dynasty and Fray boys going head to head!
My pleasure mate and of course #DyntoWin

As always, good luck to DynSL, and I hope they break the recent trend of short-lived new teams in SEA! I have personally been enjoying the entertaining sledging between the Fray and DynSL boys, and look forward to the upcoming clan war!
I want to see games that live up to the hype. Maybe a cannon rush v 6pool.

GLHF!

Things have been getting too quiet and friendly. Time to stir the waters some in time for the clan war
On a serious note: on request I've started using colours to differentiate questions and answers further. If folks could please let me know your thoughts on the change in format, I'd appreciate it
