I managed to get my girlfriend to play her first game of starcraft yesterday.
It was one of the most frustrating, and yet happiest days of my life :P
It took her well over 5 minutes to fully understand the most basic things like selecting probes (left click + drag) and sending them to the mineral line (right click). FIVE MINUTES....
She kept selecting them all then left clicking (deselecting) on the mineral line... i was trying so hard not to explode as then she would give up and never play again.
Patience Peter... patience. I kept supporting her as she did good things, and tried to gloss over mistakes.
She would keep building pylons everytime that i told her to build probes.
Surprisingly once we were past that, she got the shift clicking - of building multiple buildings really easily. Along with shift deselecting units. She also picked up hotkeying buildings fairly fast too.
Considering she had no idea what any of the buildings did she did rather well.
She managed to win 2 out of 3 games versus 'very easy' computers. (15k minerals banked) but 2 base allins (at 30 min marks)!
Holy crap, I think alot of us know how much patience this takes, and I know I've definitely not had this patience in the past. Well done mate and gluck with the brainwashing
Also she sounds like an incredibly quick learner for an RTS noobie O.o
This is what I imagine in my dreams....
Unfortunately that hasn't come true yet.
deth doesn't have the patience and only picks out the flaws in my gameplay.
Even played in tournaments which he either forgot about or cbf'd watching the stream.
Now I feel like playing less games everyday. I AM SO JELLY RIGHT NOW!
Keep it up Leg! When you're as new to it as she is (I remember this part well) it really does take a looooong time for things to sink in and start to make sense. Just continue being patient and you'll see how far she can go!
2v2 tournament for gamers and their gf's (with appropriate handicaps) <---- someone make that happen! :P
