Hey everyone, I felt like writing this today as I was in a really depressed and sad mood because of the bad things happening to my people in the Middle-East, I just want you guys to know something that not many people know about.
My name is Gevergiz(George) Shlimon(Simon) Moghaddas(Holy/Blessed) Babeleh(of Babylon). I was born in Melbourne, Australia. My parents are immigrants from a place called Urmia, Iran. I know a lot of you guys probably think now that I'm a Persian Muslim, but in fact im not. Around the areas of North-Western Iran, South-East Turkey, North-East Syria & Northern Iraq is the home of the Assyrian People. We are the direct ancestors of the Assyrians of old thousands and thousands of years ago, before the arabs, before the persians, before any of them. The vast majority of them (99.99%) are Christians (Your probably thinking since when is there Christians in Middle East, go figure... lol).
Because we are Christians, we have been persecuted for thousands of years, and we are still being persecuted today, only recently the city of Mosul (Old day Nineveh) was emptied of Christians (majority Assyrians) by ISIS terrorists after marking Christian homes with arabic letter N. The last time this happened was in the 1300's who infamously slaughtered millions of Christians across all of Asia, to believe this sort of thing would happen in the 21st Century is more surprising. There is already a massive diaspora of Assyrians around the globe, in its only getting worse (again) now because of ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
The world has forgotten us, the League of Nations betrayed us, the UN has ignored us, the Iraqi government has failed us, the Kurdish despise us, and now that we are almost emptied from our Ancestral home, surrounded by enemies, the situation for my people there looks very dim.
I just want the world to know who we are, where we come from, because even though we have no land to call home, our nation is in our hearts, and if it ever comes a day that this nation shall disappear from the sands of time, people will remember...
There was once the Assyrians, masters of war in the ancient times, turned to humble followers of Christ in the new, the Assyrians who in WW1, served the Alliance faithfully, who beyond chance, held off 10,000 bloodthirsty Kurds with 800 brave warriors, who have now been forgotten by the world, who died bravely even though being abandoned by their Allies, and now a simple guy living in Melbourne keeping all this heritage in his heart and mind. Long Live Assyria!
weow, my mum is a christian Assyrian as well, didn't know much of the history of them. Shame i don't think she tries to keep up with stuff happening there

Excellent Read. The crisis in the Middle East, Shootings in the US, Ukrane and Russian with the threat of a WW3, Ebola crisis in West Africa. I fear for what this world has become and what would happen if the violence among countrymen and nations around the world doesn't stop. I wish religion didn't matter it was an option of way of life and not something people expect others to live by or deserve to die by not doing so. The only thing i can do is make these people feel welcome in my country my homeland so that they may at least call somewhere home.
Thank you AssyrianKing Thank you !
