My housemate, TaXanT and myself wanted to catch up with some mates early in the new year, play some games, have a few drinks, etc. So the idea of a Lan at ours was born.
XanT and I are big sc2 fans, however some of our mates aren't, or the level between us all is pretty vast. It wouldn't be a Lan without some SC2, so a swiss bracket round robin was the best option, as it balanced out the games between wins/loses as you go, and everyone gets a good number of games in.
We have plenty of room, so also invited along any Melb sc2sea guys that were free.
We were hoping from around 15-18 starcraft players so it would be a decent sized lan event.
Come saturday we put on our removalist caps, and moved all the furnature out of the way, so there'd be plenty of room to set up tables, chairs, pc's, etc. Moving couches is no easy task!
So we got it all done, and then we just waited for people to rock up.
During
First to come was Monk (in game name), one of our real life friends, and a team starcraft player. He arrived around 3pm. Most people came later in the afternoon. Despite hoping everyone would arrive before 6pm so we could start the sc2, we were delayed and didn't start until after 7.
First prize was the choice of a bottle of Jim Beam, or $20. 2nd place got the other.
A fair few people couldn't make it on the day/pulled out, so we ended up with 11 starcraft 2 players.
Games quickly got under way.
Pizza arrived at the conclusion of R1, and was quickly consumed by the hungry gamers. We then proceded to finish off the last 4 rounds of the tournament.
Results were:
1st: SlowHands aka neatnoicepls, who went 5-0.
2nd: FaDeEdOne aka Eddie
3rd: TaXanT
Some of the non sc2 regulars were getting a little tired towards the end and pulled out against opponents they couldn't beat, thus were walked over, shown by 99 to the winner. And Monk unfortunately had to leave early due to work.
After
After Starcraft 2 we moved onto some old school Battlefield 1942/Desert Combat, where we mucked around in vehicles/jets/helicopters against a mass of bots. Team kills were also a regular occurance :P
Next we moved onto some Legaue of Legends. After that, around 3am-ish most people decided to go home/sleep. A couple of us remained to try our luck at some Sc2 team games, which we did until about 5am, when the last person went home.
Was a really fun day. Little bit disappointed in only have 11 for the sc2 tournament/a few people not show up, but something we can build on if we run another one in a few months. Everyone who came seemed to have a good time, and was great to catch up with some mates.
Sounds like a good time, kudos for hosting. Good work for holding an actual tournament aswell, most of the LANs I go to devolve into nine hours of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Which is awesome.

Yeah was a fun night. The maps are HUGE in Battlefield but we didn't really play all that seriously. Half the fun of desert combat with mates is seeing who can get to the chopper and actually take off without someone blowing it up (In most cases this was me lol). Lots of nostalgia thought playing BF1942. I never got into Tribes much, and your right we should of had a game of the original SC but never got around to it.
Also I never knew SlowHands was in TA lol
Edit: Don't forget me flying a jet like a boss ^_^
