After seeing ACL on twitch the past few years I decided to finally commit to going and besides getting rekt, would 11/10 go again (and still get rekt)
It began on Friday flying in from Auckland after lunchtime, meeting up with some VB clan guys; Boony and Coffeejoe (yes VB still exists) it was awesome to see these guys and was even better to finally be able to have a pint with them.
Saturday morning had 0 clue what to expect. My first impression of turning up was I was amazed at how friendly everybody was and by how happy some of you were to see me. Unfortunately that's as exciting as my morning got as I was shortly after soundly beaten by some intelligent zerg play from MightyKiwi (no racist bracket next time pls) and then had to sit and wait nervously to vs the loser of chase vs azz, both players I respect and wasn't particularly excited to vs either of them, eventually i lost to chase in two very close games - disappointing for me, but after practicing vs chase in previous weeks, I could tell his macro and decision making had improved immensely and he thoroughly deserved to win the series.
Despite the early exit, was determined to make the rest of acl enjoyable for myself. Meeting the fray, ttsyf, slcn, x5, dynasty and ofc eCKo boys was amazing and being able to watch some of you play, discuss games, strategy and enjoy having food with you guys was good fun, even your sheep jokes were adorable too.
Sunday was much the same, only with more entertaining matches to watch and my team mates becoming more interested in rocketleague than sc2... So take a note guys, if you want to win sc2, don't play it! Really enjoyed watching the law vs deth, law vs blysk, probe vs nxz probe vs rize and ofc probe vs blysk finals. Was pretty stoked to see snute win acl in the end, big congrats to you again bud! Afterwards I ended up somewhere in Melbourne (I still don't know where) having my first taste of Korean BBQ with the x5 guys which was good fun - special shout out to namachef and dot for helping us choose something!
Special shout out to nem and Elusory for coming down from Singapore too, you guys are truly awesome. Even though nem is bm. Blysk too, tough luck in the finals - some of your comebacks in the pvz's you had were amazing to watch, keep at it!
On Monday spent the morning with pokemon, not the cartoon but eCKo.pokemon, after being nerds at the arcade and discussing how bad we are at sc2, he dropped me off at the airport and I flew on home.
Thanks again guys for an awesome weekend Really keen to see you all at the next one!
"and we'll invest more on Bots, as our first Trial bot, the 'NemBotElie' was a huge success, organising tournaments and being part of the Council of mGG. But there are a few bugs in which the bot cannot go past the skill level of a Platinum Protoss." - PaRAnorMaL
