This blog is about what being a Starcraft II progamer outside of Korea (Australia for me) means right now, and the challenges we face ahead. This blog is written in the context of the weekend I just had at ACL Brisbane. This was the first big event for HotS (in Australia) and kicked off the SEA SCII season. This was written before the WCS NA Qualifier but just got around to posting it.
Competition, Exposure and Personality
Right now Starcraft is in a very scary place. HotS is out... [Read More]
This event was such a blast to attend! I got into Melbourne earlier in the day and was super excited when I wandered over to Fed Square and was reminded just how awesome this venue was. Right in the heart of Melbourne, surrounded by Museums, Galleries, a historic train station and the stage itself actually in a square that is one of Melbourne's key social meeting places. This is as mainstream, public and accessible a venue as one can hope for and I was so psyched as I stood there watching the ACL... [Read More]
Edit: bah posted on Dot's account. This is my (PiG) blog! Nirvana please change ownership when you see this :s
Video is public now.
So the beta went down and I've been pretty bored. Decided to practice my marine micro.
I finally had time to get into Natural Selection 2. It's a bloody amazing game! The only multiplayer RTS-FPS hybrid that actually kicks ass (or the only one? :P). It's incredibly competitive and is so multifaceted that for a competitive guy like me it provides endle... [Read More]
I recently started following a paleo diet, to some degree. I've had people telling me about the "caveman diet" for a long time and urging me to try it out. After hearing more about it than usual in the last few months, including pro sc2 player Sheth was swapping to it and having great success (http://www.teamliquidpro.com/news/20...eight-and-pain) I decided to have a go myself. After all, I love eating meat, more of it couldn't be bad right?
The diet itself can be read about he... [Read More]
w00t I got a new capture card! Here's a video of me unboxing it and testing out the changes in recording qualities. Dot edited this video so nicely check out the last minute for her sexy camera work :P
I'm completely beat after streaming 10am-1am tonight and am still live as I write this blog. I'm happy that I've been getting a lot of high-masters students so coaching has been particularly challenging and interesting. Also I've swapped to HoTS mostly so that's been a fresh change!
Just wanted to share a review I did of the P2532N Notebook that Gigabyte provided me with.
Dot did some sick camera work on this so I'm really happy with how pro she made the VoD look. Much better than the 360p webcam recording I would have done on my own!
I'm currently learning how to use FRAPS so will be throwing some SC2 tutorials up on youtube in the coming weeks!
So since I started progaming fulltime I've gained ~8kg. This is just a guess as I can't even remember how much i weighed before, but basically, I've put on a bunch of weight.
I'm sure this is a situation many of us who choose gaming as our recreation face on a daily basis. Especially those of us whom have a penchant to eat entire jars of nutella, with a spoon, in a single marathon session of Firefly.
So I'm kind of dreading the day I go to a LAN and instead of people saying "oh I... [Read More]
Before I signed with Tt I never used a mousepad. I just didn't see the need! I play at home on a polished-wood table (not glazed) that I thought was an ideal gaming surface. Whilst I've played games semi-competitively for almost 10 years now I never really knew the finer points of mouse-usage and like many gamers I just figured "it can't make much difference, my table is fine". I was wrong.
I'm so happy to be home finally Time to get back into the regular flow again.
It's been a wild ride for the last 6 months since I travelled to win ACL Melbourne. 1 month later I won WCS Australia. The day after WCS finished I travelled to Cologne, Germany, to compete at IEM Gamecom. 1 month later I was in Korea competing at IeSF and spent the next 5 weeks training in the PRIME teamhouse and competing in the most recent code A qualifiers. After less than a week back in Sydney from Korea, I was ... [Read More]
I'm coming home!! ooh yeah! I'm so damn excited to get back to a land where fruit and vegetables are abundant as well as my awesome ladeh waits, she so awesome I think the worst thing about Korea is she can't magically teleport here and so we had to talk over skype to stay in touch, which sucks donkey phallus.
In other news, it's bloody hard to track down all your clothes when you leave a Korean team as everyone tends to wear each others clothes. Artosis assured me it was the same with eSTRO bac... [Read More]
So, I went to GOM last night to watch the up-and-downs.
First I figured out how to get to mok dong, showered, shaved etc. And then headed out on what I was told would be an hour-and-a-half journey by taxi-subway-subway-walk.
I'm totally aclimated now so I just get in the taxi and say "bucheon Yeok" like a boss, dat right, they understand me and all. I totally speak korean.
And then my second time on the subway alone! I knew which platforms to go to but couldn't tell which train ... [Read More]
"The gameplay in SC2 is boring and repetitive, it's just the same thing over and over again"
The guy with the sunglasses is how I imagine people that complain about this...
This is a phrase I've heard quite a bit recently. You know, the truth of the matter is, everyone sucks at SC2 and barely grasps how the game works. For the last 2 years everyone has described concepts in the game using relationships and examples from Broodwar or occassionally Warcraft 3. But this i... [Read More]
Hey guys just letting you know Sunset (melbourne eSports lass + baller) has been writing some awesome articles on eSports. I like them. You should read them.
Hey guys realised I wrote an EPIC email to Dot the other day so thought I'd share most of it with you guys as it was just telling about some of the time at IeSF in Cheonan, Korea. This aint as purty as my normal blogs, just basic recounts. If you want to read something well-polished this isn't for you!
I wrote this a while ago but haven't had anyone to proof-read it and as I'm embarking to Korea tomorrow I figured I'd better post it before I forget. This blog is about my experience immediately after WCS Australia/Oceania heading to IEM Cologne on August 15-20th. This part is mostly just a rundown of my feelings after WCS as well as my emotions and experiences flying to Cologne.
The trip to the airport
Ok so it's monday the 13th of August, 2012. I'm riding the train to the airport a... [Read More]
Many of you know I stopped the majority of my coaching and streaming over the last 2 months leading up to ACL Melbourne and WCS Aus/Oceania. This really paid off with me winning ACL and WCS Australia. Even though I didn't perform so well in WCS Oceania and IEM Cologne the effect of 100% focus and discipline in my training was evident. That being said I'm not willing to leave coaching behind.
Coaching been a large part of getting to where I am today. It has helped me broaden my knowledg... [Read More]
We arrived at the ACL venue right on 9am this morning. This time we went healthy, we were eating Mcdonalds bacon and egg muffins. Lol by this time our bodies were starting to suffer from the perpetual junk but we pressed on!

Hi guys I'd like to Introduce my new blog series where I take an awesome experience in eSports and write some of my feelings about it and share part of that experience with the SCII community. I normally wouldn't have time to write this but with the wonderful support I've been receiving from my sponsors (Tt eSports, Gigabyte Notebooks, Mwave.com.au and AVerMedia) I've decided to use these experiences as a way to say thanks to them. As these blogs will be "brought to you by (insert sponsor here)... [Read More]
I had no idea he was writing such awesome articles (especially the interview with me durrr) about sc2 and was thinking he should create a thread to update whenever he writes a new article so that the sc2sea regulars get to see it! It'll get a few more clicks for games.on.net too!
Get on it boy! Just a suggestion ofc if you're too busy np!... [Read More]
So today I finally got around to installing my brand spankin' new AverMedia Game Broadcaster HD Capture card! W00t!
But first, some backstory...
Ok so basically for anyone who isn't aware I am one of the biggest retards when it comes to technology. It might sound odd coming from a progamer but basically my parents were quite strict in terms of using the computer growing up. When I was allowed to play games as a teenager it was always next to the ki... [Read More]
But before I tell the tale of now I have to tell you how I got here.
Part I - Childhood and adolescence
One step at a time, one foot in front of the other. My head hung limply down as I watched my feet walking forwards across the black. As I watched the hypnotic motion of my feet across the ground the darkness slowly began to recede and shapes and colours began to form beneath my toes. Blurry lines turned to sharp edges and took all manner... [Read More]
